Hiya, Went out a couple of weeks ago, met a guy who gave me his phone number.... he texted me a couple of times and then sent me a text giving me a different number with the messaging saying "hya, please use this number from now on, as I have a new job and had to give my phone back yesterday". So, I put the new number in my phone. Anyway, he text me again (on his new number), so I called him....but realised that I'd rang the 'old phone'..... just as I went to cancel the call, he answered! Now, this was the phone he was supposed to have given back????.... I was in shock, so I cut the call. Since then he's text me (on his new number)...I've not replied as I'm not sure what to think... But, I got my mate to call his 'old number' (you know, the phone he gave back!!!!) and sure enough it was him.....what do you think about the situation and what I should do? Many thanks..Josie x

Ask him why he wants you to use the new number and not the old one?

he is an original crowned liar - dont even go there. u should ask him how is he answering the phone he supposedly gave back.

i cant take a liar it annoys me!!!!!!!!

I agree, don't get involved!!! it sounds like trouble!

Hmmmmm, well it could all be perfectly innocent but I have had a situation where a guy gave me his phone number (after me asking if he was single and him saying he was) and then giving me a different number to contact him on, saying the original number was his daughters phone which he had borrowed(!!!). After several weeks of texting, calling and flirting and trying to arrange to meet up (he lived quite a long way away from me), his wife then texted me!!!! I felt like a complete idiot and felt really bad for his wife.

I suppose your guy deserves the benefit of the doubt, but just be on your guard for any signs that he's not being completely honest with you.

Good luck x

u see it helliebobs. First impression lasts. the man just meet the lady and lying already. its so pathetic. He didnt even say i still have the old number so u can call it still. he is extremely cheeky

Well when you rang the old number he must have known it was you calling, so if he was trying to hide anything - why did he answer?

Maybe he wanted to answer it, before his wife did!

Sorry, but I think he sounds a bit dodgy too Spcl22.

If he wanted to make sure you stop contacting the old number surely he would have told you he lost it/ had it stolen, etc - that makes more sense to me, and also he wouldn't have answered it when he saw you name / number come up (unless he removed it from his phone book of course).

I think you ought to give the guy a chance to explain himself, it does sound a bit dodgy but at least give him a chance to get his side across. He may not be married, he may have awkward parents? May have got his old job back? I know lots of people that innocently have two phones. Ring him and ask him outright, if the reason/ story doesn't feel right then get rid of him!

I have 2 mobiles, does that make a liar and a cheat too then?

Hi All, Right.... Just to answer a couple of questions...when I called him, it was from my desk phone, which is a withheld number (I've just checked by calling my own mobile phone)... I've just replied to his last text today and asked him outright why he told me that he'd given his phone back when he clearly hadn't and he has text back "I don't know what you mean, I've given it back".....then sent another one saying "oh, I have two phones, but one sim card....so, how about that date"....... I think I've decided to give him the 'elbow'. Sounds very 'dodgeville' to me!!! Thanks for your help all. xxx
Then I agree with the others spl, steer well clear!! Glad you checked it out first though!! x x
def sounds dodgy, if he has two phones but one sim card surely the number would be the same whichever phone he is using! I have two phones one for work and one personal and i have no problem keeping them seperate!

was it definately him that answered the phone or could it just be another bloke at his work?

I know lots of people with 2 phones and thats not necessarily a bad thing. i also know of one guy who has 4 phones and is a serial flirt and is always texting different girls.

Its up to you to make up your own mind on this one

How dodgy can you get!! A sim card has only one number on it,so even if he put it in another fone you would still hsve to ring the same number for it! Also ,you txt him and he said that he had given the fone back, then he remembers that he actually has 2 fones!

Sounds to me as tho his girlfriend or whoever was getting suspicious and so he has decided to use another number to contact you.

I wouldnt go there simply because its so early in relationship and the trust is gone.
What a drama! He's probably got some business people calling him he either no longer requires or who he wants to avoid. Lots of people do things like that in business, doesn't make him unrustworthy in his personal life and it's not a big thing. Meet him and ask him (nicely, not an inquisition) what's the deal with the phone numbers. It's no big deal.

Sounds like he likes the laydeezzz and wants to keep his options open from where I'm sitting (or perhaps he is already with someone). Also, if I had met a guy 2 weeks ago and we were texting and he hadn't said about meeting up, I don't know if I'd be bothered with him?...

I think i'd give him the el of bow (elbow).

What's with all the people defending him??

1. He tells her he gave back the phone - fair enough.

2. He answers said phone when called inadvertantly - a little suspicious but could be explained

3. She asks him outright and he says he did give it back when he clearly didn't having answered it!

4. He's dumb enough to think that putting a sim card into another phone will change the nunber.

spcl22, If I were you I would keep a wide berth, someone already said that first impressions last and you're clearly suspicious. If you don't steer clear for him lying about having handed back the phone then I'd steer clear for him being a dumbass RE the sim card!

What's with the "so how about that date then?" WTF? He sounds like a right arrogant arse IMHO. You can just hear the over confident obnoxiousness in the tone!

Tell him to go and boil his head and go get yourself a bloke who will treat you right xx
