Smoking does act as an appetite supressant and does itself raise the metabolism. James is correct though when he says that smokers often eat more, perhaps subconciously, sweets and snacks etc. But there is also the metabolism issue and that comes in with what 4getmenot says. So in short stop snacking and take more exercise.
For what it's worth crack one prob at a time, so what if you out some weight on, get it off again once you have beaten the smoking thing. The smoking is far more dangerous than being a little overweight. Get down the Gym!
