Do you have to give DNA samples if you have been convicted of a crime - any crime. In the paper today it states that a rapist was convicted after DNA found on his victims matched that of his sisters who was on the database for a driving offence.

The DNA couldn't have been a match for his sister or she would have had to be the rapist. It could simply have CLOSELY matched the sister's DNA which gave them the ability to check out the brother's DNA.

Ethmer - I thought that as well but just typed what was in the newspaper, although have to admit it was a tabloid after all so what should we expect!!!
my mates lad got arrested a while ago for something silly (cant even remember what it was) he was about 13 at the time. Even though he wasnt charged with anything (he ended up with a caution)he had to give DNA and my mate was told that it not only goes on British databases but also the International ones (no idea if its true though)
