Hi All,

I had my shoulder operated on 2.5 years ago, via keyhole were they shrunk my shoulder joint with a heat probe and reattached all my ligaments?

Do you think there is any chance of further dislocation after this operation? It use to dislocate so easily. I am finding I am worried to do anything, so wont do any sports now, frightend to go to sport venues incase I get knocked, even worried about taking promotion at wokr incase my shoulder goes and I need more time off work.

Just want to know from peoples experiences of this Op if it is secure and if I can live a normal life now? I do get pain from it sometimes but it tends to be when I am worrying about the shoulder.

This may seem stupid but just want to get on with my life and have wrote to my surgeon but had no response and my GP will not refer me regarding these sort of questions

Thanks,
Steve

I assume you have had physiotherapy after and regularly since the operation, what has the physiotherapist advised you about returning to activity? If you havn't seen the physio for a while, ring the department and ask their advice.

I had physio for 6 months after the Op and they said id be fine after that, its been 2 and 1/2 years since the Op but only just started worrying about it due to offer of promotion at work, worried if take it and something goes wrong it look bad on me :(
Thanks for the reply
Hi Stevepil. I have had two different ops on my shoulder because of persistant dislocations. I would agree with the other ABers who answered your question-physio will build up the muscle and ligament strength in your shoulder and will hopefully stop it from 'popping out' again. Mind you, my shoulder is what they call sub-lux (half in half out!) after the ops but it functions well and only aches occasionally. Good luck and try not to worry. x

Hi
Thanks for the reply, good to talk to someone who has had similar problems, mine use to dislocate from arm movement like serving in tennis so they shrunk the shoulder capsule and tightened it all up, trouble is its been 2 and 1/2 years and cant remember any exercises, ive looked online and cant find anything. I just want to ensure it never dislocates again :) cos its so painful (as you know) and the time you lose from work and your life is not good, especially as want to go for promotion and worried it could effect it, I do get quite a bit iof pain from it but thats mainly when thinking about it so think thats physcological, not sure :( its so hard to find what I can and cant do and not worrying about it is were im struggling, think cos it use to dislocate roughly every 2 years and we are at that stage is why its on my mind so much, thanks again xx

Hi mazzywoo, following on from the above, the 1/2 in 1/2 out is that not painful and does it not still dislocate?? Also I have spoke with my GP re Physio and they have said they can not refer me for this as Ive done the physio and only if something happens can they review? is that true? I even asked if I could be reffered to fracture clinic but was same response, and told to forget about it but its easily said when its never happened to you :)
