Of course no one can know unless they were actually in the stiuation but I was wondering. If you had a child that was on a life support machine and had little qulaitly of life would you agree to have the machine turned off? Also who do you think has the right to choose if a patient is let die in this situation. The Doctors or the Parents?

Well I am not going to knee-jerk with the herd and bleat "please leave".

If this question had been posed by any other person it would have received considered and sympathetic responses. Do all questions on here have to be on non-controversial and insensitive issues ?

Everybody needs a friend and a bit of support. There are FAR worse posters on here, but it is this one to whom you choose to present a wall of loathing.

To answer your question - I don't know. I have had a premature baby kept in an incubator and it is a god-awful feeling. To be told there is a 20% chance she won't make it is mind-blowing. To be told there is NO hope, well there but for the grace of God.

I do not think it has genuinely upset people.I think this time some people have just gone too far.If anyone else had posted this question it they would not have been told it was offensive. It is ridiculous.Just answer the question sensibley or do not answer at all.
As a mother myself it would be the most heart breaking decision in the world, but I really think that yes I would switch it off if they had no quality of life.

(and since most other people are going of topic - I know people are annoyed at SR/whatever, but be fair, she did just ask a question.I cant believe how vicious people have been getting to her on here! If you dont like her then dont reply. I am starting to feel slightly ashamed that I was mean cause I dont want to be associated with this witch hunt!)

I know I remember a really nasty thing you said to me on cerescape and I have never forgotten it ever. But I forgive you now.I am a VERY forgiving person so back to the SENSIBLE THOUGHT PROVOKING question that I asked!
ok you know what, I'm sorry too. But you do seem to go out your way to wind people up
I know mycats but dont feel bad, I have had a go before but only to stick up for others or because she has peed me off. But czechlesbian may I suggest though that if you have changed and feel that you are gonna be a good person from now on maybe you should have chosen a totally different name and then people would answer you seriously.

I am Russian by desent but was born in Prague!
i was given the option to switch off my severely prem babies life support as they said he would have no quality of life, i refused point blank, and now although he is quadraplegic he is a very sharp and clever boy and has a better quality of life than most people, my son is loved and adored by us all and always has a smile for everyone, he has exceeded all the doctors expectations and i would never regret my decision.

On the other side of that, my mum was told my baby brother would have no quality of life, and she made the decision to turn his machine off, and for them it was the best choice.

Doctors should not be allowed to make that decision as they are not always right about the childs future. My darling son is living proof of that
I have to say, this question in itself is not offensive. it is not worded badly and makes no sick and twisted comments.
That fact that some people have sadly been in the situation mentioned, does not make it insensitive either.

it is a thought provoking and sad question, that has us all thinking "there but fop the grace of god..."

however, foreignlesbo or whatever your name is these days, it is your previous dispicable actions that have provoked this hostile response towards you and this question - and you absolutely deserve it.

you have no right to expect people to be nice to you, just because you decide, for once, not to be overly offensive - you do not deserve the same courtesy and respect that others on this site receive.

now do you see where your behaviour has got you? - you will never be able to ask a sensible question on this site without getting this sort of reaction, and it is all your own fault.

and yes, if anyone else had asked it, it would have been responded to with kindness, respect and thought.
Really? I thought you were born in France.
Oh yeah, and what joko said :o)
Where is the milk of human kindness ? In real life when society releases a prisoner, it welcomes and repatriates. Everyone is given a new chance. Not on here though, oh no, we have to hear cant and preaching from all the stiff and starchy moralisers. That silly lecture to me actually elevated SR to a position of some dignity.

It's just the continuing vindictiveness I find so unattractive. I have my principles too, and wanton nastiness gets my goat. Some of these responses simply were not necessary. Just nasty.
If there's no chance of them recovering, yes. Obviously it would be harder in that situation.
