I am a very heavy drinker (About 3 bottles of spirits a week, usually drunk neat) But I never have any negative symptoms. No hangover or tiredness. Nothing aparrently wrong with my liver and generally healthy all over. Is it possible to drink heavily with no negative side effects or will they gang up on me in the future? My dad drunk and smoked very heavily all his life with no bad effects.

its maybe a bit much to drink in a week. maybe for your future health you should consider cutting down. please dont think im criticising you because im not.
I take it you won't be hammering the Pension Fund then
By drinking at that level
Erm,Im no one to preach, but that does sound an awful lot! Maybe some people are lucky and just can get away with it,but just be careful.
If you yourselkf call it heavy drinking dan then maybe you are already aware it might be a problem. I think as you get older and the wear and tear starts to set in and if you were unwell with say a cold or flu, then you would really be able to tell how your body copes with fighting off a simple virus as well as restoreing your normal bodily functions.
Just out of interest, how old are you??

I could easily drink a bottle of vodka with OJ in the evening with my b/f - which is why we don't even buy it!! We stick to wine, which is still alcohol I know, but nowhere near as strong as spirits.

Its been at least 7 years since I had a cold or flu. Im 37 :)
Oh well you can carry on as you are then for a good few years yet. When your body decides it can't cope any more it will let you know.
mr, liver is waiting to pounce be alert
Those amounts sounds dangerous to me consult your doctor if he/she says its ok then its party time if not start living. good luck.
You are obviously lucky that you come from good strong stock. But what I reckon you should do is maybe have a complete break from alcohol. Say, a month. See HOW you feel. If you feel no different, fine. If you feel better then that may tell you something. It may also mean that when you start drinking again you don't need 3 bottles to feel any effect- so it will save you money. Even women on the pill are advised to take a break from it every now and again.
when i drink what i consider to be too much - which happens very often now adays i take 2 milk thistle tablets a day, on the days i have none i just have one tablet.. its a natural remedie that replenishes the liver. Artichoke extract is supposed to have good effect too. perhaps u it would be good for you to try. both available in the leading supermarkets.
i hate to ask but is your dad still alive? i think it does catch up but i also drink a lot because i love alchohol...but i do worry about later life effects.
Hi Dan, It's alot of intake of units a week, your body can only take so much of alchol abuse then it will be too late. Alchol can cause untold amount of damage, physically, mentally and emotionally in time. You must be somewhat aware that your drinking is not at a safe level or you wouldn't be asking this question, which brave, honest, and a positive thing to do. The next step is what are your intentions, cut down or stop all together! I have seen from personal experience what alchol abuse can cause, and I say this kindly, act now before its too late.

I wish you lots of hope and positivity for the future. X X X :-)
Dan, I do hope you are not deluding yourself. Even if you feel no bad health effects now, this amount of alcohol will definitely not be doing your liver any good.

Ask yourself whether you really need to drink this amount. It must be costing you a small fortune. Why not cut out one bottle every week and put the money where you can't easily get at it. I think you might be rather horrified how much you've saved after a year, quite apart from the benefit you will be doing to your body.
