I was watching 9/11 programme last night which got me thinking if I could turn back time and change just one thing in history I'd stop that. But then I thought if I rang the prime minister as if he would listen to little old me, so that was idea was out. Then I thought I'd stop Ian Huntley getting hold of Sarah & Jessica but then he'd only go on to ruin someone else's lives and killing him would only get me in trouble. So in the end I settled for stopping Thomas Hamilton getting into that school in Dunblane on 13th March 1996 to stop him shooting dead those poor innocent children and schoolteacher. So my question is if you go back and change 1 moment in world history what would it be?
I couldn't have changed 9/11 as I believe the same as Matheous ~ it was a controlled demolition.
it's a difficult one to answer, as stopping an horrific event may not change anything at all..there will always be something/someone out there ready to do it instead. I reckon if Hitler hadn't have existed then another person would have...interesting Q, 4getmenot :o)
My ex husbands grandad was actually sent to kill hitler at some big march during the war. Luckily Hitler didnt turn up or my ex wouldnt be here today as his grandad would not have got away alive.
So do we think there is any event out there that if we changed it wouldnt have some other big impact? I did think about stopping Diana crashing, but Nahhhh :-)
Matheous I still cant believe that both the towers came down like that, I watch it and think how did they know they would cause that.
very interesting question. You can do "what if..." for anything if you think about it.What if my ex hadnt been a total t*sser, then I would have never left him, wouldnt have met my b/f.....
Same as you redcrx - if your grandad had gone to war, then your partner probably wouldnt have been here today.
Nat, 4get is right I do still care about him (am perfectly happy with my bf and son so dont read into that). Plus if id never married him who knows who id be with now and would i even be the same person i am now?
I know - I was joking hence the tongue pokey outy. Didn't mean to cause offence x
Still can't think of anything huge that I could change without having a huge effect on everything that happened afterwards.
Aha! Actually, that school in Russia where everyone was all kept captive and the captors had bombs strapped to their bodies. I would tell them to have an inset day, and foil to their plan!
There was a book written years ago about a guy who goes back in time and accidently kills a butterfly. When he comes back everyone speaks a different language the national flag has changed and there are different people in power. I dont remember what the book is called but it shows that by tampering with anything in history you could cause terrible concequences in the future.
There is a film called the Butterfly Effect starring Ashton Kucher, and sounds like it is based on the novel, although I don't remember there being a butterfly in the film.
I've never read the book or seen the film but i'm sure there must be a link. Anyway if i went back in time i would learn to spell consequences correctly !!!!!
