Blood Infection
4 Answers
Hi, my friends Son who is 7 years old was complaining that his shoulder was hurting him and he also had difficulty breathing, so she took him to see the Doctor who advised her to take him to Hospital, they were there for about 5 hours having tests and everything and an hour ago he was admitted, all the Doctors have said at the moment is that he has a blood infection, naturally my friend is very worried, Has anybody got any idea what this actually is and how dangerous is it?

(It can less commonly be caused by viruses and fungi)
In the instance you describe, the age, the breathing difficulties etc are all of concern......but on the positive side, he is now in hospital, his condition has been recognised, and he is receiving treatment. The blood tests will be to confirm the nature of the infectious organism.
They will have immediately placed him (I would imagine) on IV antibiotic therapy, and possibly O2 therapy as well, to fight the infection and to aid with his breathing.
So, its potentially very dangerous... but your friends son is in the best place, and having the right treatment. Your friend will obviously be extremely worried, but they should try to be as positive and optimistic as they can.

Hi PinkFizz, Firstly i would like to thank LazyGun for the information. I spoke to my friend a couple of hours ago and the Doctors have now said that he has a Viral Infection and not a Blood Infection, He is feeling better and has brightened up a bit, at the time of talking to her she was in the process of waiting for the Doctor to give the go ahead for him to be allowed home, So i am waiting for news as i write. It has been a very worrying time, but hopefully now he can go home and get well again. Thankyou for your concern.
