When do you start paying for the dentist? My mam is wondering because my brother is nearly 18 and thinks he should start paying now. B.t.w we are at an NHS dentist.

You start paying for dental treatment from 18 years of age unless you are in receipt of benefits etc. The charges are listed in this link http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.a spx?articleId=1781
Is your brother a student? If so he should be able to get help with this - I know I had a certificate for free eye tests/dental work at the time I was a student.
Whilst you are at an NHS dentist they will fill your teeth non stop because they get paid for the work they do.
Soon you will get a letter from your dentist informing you you that they are leaving the NHS and you will have to join Denplan.
Then they leave you in pain and try their utmost not to do any work because this costs them money!
I speak from personal experience.
Just thought i'd warn you!
