is there anything that i can take before i go on holiday to stop the mosquitoes biting me last year i was bittten terrible and it spoilt my hols i tried all the repelants under the sun whilst i was there but no of them worked,
tia sammix please help i dnt want to be bitten alive :'(
Stylinsam, do you have Avon products in the UK? If so, buy some "Skin So Soft". Yes, it's a cosmetic product: but it sure does keep those pesky critters away.
I usually just use Soltan sunblock/ aftersun products which have mozzi repelant in them. They work well for me but I don't usually get bothered that badly by them .My mum on the other hand attracts them really badly and tends to stock up on Jungle formula and also takes anti-histemine for what bites she does get. I have a theory that people with o negative blood get worse affected by the wee blighters. Do you know what type you are sam?
Have to agree with stewey, I was told about the Avon 'Skin So Soft' stuff, (the one in the green packaging) and when I went on holiday last year, I took the shower gel, body lotion etc etc
It's great stuff, I only got 3 bites compared to the 300 I normally get!
Wardy is right, if u go to to any health food store they have garlic odourless capsules that are specifically marketed for this purpose. the mozzie licks your skin when they land and if they like u they bite u, if they taste the garlic your skin has secreted they don't hang around. Start taking them 6 to 8 weeks before u go., Don't use any european repellents if you are going to the caribbean they love them, buy the locallly sold ones that are designed to really kill the little sods.
Don't use the plug in repellent in your room either, better to keep the air con to very cool, they don't like it cold.
I had over 100 bites in Cuba in may05 and nearly died, i wish i had taken the advice i now give u, the doctor in the emergency room told me all the above.
I've been in some terrible states due to being allergic to the bites, and unfortunately they leave my husband alone in favour of me ( I even got bit on a cool day in England, and my face swelled up so much I couldn't wear my glasses)
Both marmite and Avon Skin-So-Soft ( the original variety )
in conjunction with each other will make a big difference, they are repelled by yeast coming from the pores after eating marmite and also the citrus properties of the SSS.
Good Luck, I know how miserable they make you, I used to spend half my hols popping the blisters they leave me with to try and prevent scars. I've still got loads tho !!
Well, I've eaten garlic every day for the last 36 yrs and still got bitten dreadfully until I used a plug-in. At one point I had to have monthly injections to stop the swelling of the bites which would render a limb useless, and the times I've had a swollen eye from a mossie bite (you can imagine all the comments) - so was so glad to find that the plug-ins actually worked for me.
after years of fishing at night and getting bitten to death, the only thing that i found that works is vitamin yeast, its a yeast based vitamin b, complex, you have to take 2 or 3, 2 or 3, times a day, and it takes a few weeks to work, but it certainly does, it gives you blood a taste the gits do not like
I think dot may be right with the air conditioning as it certainly helps, but maybe that is because all doors and windows are shut. Even with mossie nets at windows and doors the little beggars still get in!
i got fed up of being bit in turkey with dam mosquitoes and the scratching and itching drove me crazy when we got home i had tried everything one night i couldnt sleep for itching and made the bites blead so went to the kitchen got a fly spray out and sprayed everywere on my arms and legs my wife thought i was crazy but it worked straight away .when we went abroad i took a small can of fly spray and sprayed my arms and legs before going anywere i didnt get bit once take some with you 100% works .
I've tried everything
Marmite (I love it and eat it every day for breakfast)
Garlic capsules ~ no luck
Garlic in food and capsules ~ no luck
Burny smoke ring thingy ~ that only worked in Greece,
Deet based products ~ no luck
Spray on / wipe on repellents ~ no luck
Natural products (they have citronella in them) ~ no luck
I even get bitten in my garden at home.
Only time I didn't get bitten was in the Dominican Republic. I had the windows closed and the air con up to max ~ when I went to Cuba I got bitten so badly I had to come home a week early
I must just be soooo tasty LOL
I agree with you all. I am in Peru at the moment and being bitten as we speak. Tryed everything, no luck. going to the jungle soon!! How will i Survive? must go i need to scratch!!
I am surprised nobody has mentioned the tried and tested answer A bloody stiff G&T. Where do you think the tradition of sundowners came from? Have a few doses of quinine based cocktails and you'll do well. Of coures it has to be Bombay Saphire!! ( or if pushed- Tanqueray!)
