hi, is anyone coeliac and got over it? case history.: diagnosed 30 years ago in teens, went on gluten free diet for one year, felt normal again, so doctor said introduce gluten back into diet. didn't feel to bad, so kept on with normal diet. have had similar symptoms now for several years, and new doctor tells us that coeliac is for life, it does not get better? is this true,thanks, alf.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I believe once you have been diagnosed with coeliac disease it is for life...The example you gave may have been a more of a food intolerance problem which does not affect the immune system and is usually a temporary problem.
The only way of diagnosing coeliac disease is by doctors taking a biopsy of the small bowel, as blood tests can still be unreliable

Yes. TillyNilly is correct. If you are a true coeliac you must stick rigidly to a glutren-free diet for life. If not it can lead, amongst other things, to lymphoma (cancer of the lymph glands). If a coeliac sticks to the GF diet the Coeliac Society says he/she is fitter than the next person because we don't eat any potential rubbish!
