When I do the washing, I dry and Iron it and then I stick it in the airing cupboard, until the next lot goes in there and then I put it in the wardrobes etc. My friend asked me why I did it? I had no answer, I just said to air the clothes. Since I had my immersion heater thingy taken out cos I have a combi boiler now, I even had a little fan type heater thing put in there, like my nan has to help air the clothes some times. Why do I do this? Do my clothes need airing? I have just been doing this blindly because my nan did it and then my mum did and I do it and have done for the last 11 years with no idea why.

I think if I had an airing cupboard the only reason I'd stick clothes in there would be because its just an extra space to put all my cr@p :-)
I could never, ever live in a home without an airing cupboard. Wonderful places - I even hand washing in mine to dry. I believe that lots of newbuild homes these days don't possess an airing cupboard.

They also make good places for the cats to hide and sleep and for drying off wet trainers stuffed with newspapers.

Seriously, unless clothes have been out to dry for ages in a really dry atmosphere (or tumble dried) I believe they do need airing.
'hang' washing
Just imagine what it was like in the times when women had to wear rags when they were menstrating!! these rags were washed and used again!!

My mum irons socks.. now that is worrying!
as we can't use fabric softner, we iron everything so that it gets soft. Otherwise the clothes are a wee bit scratchy!
I dont have an airing cupboard or even a garden to put clothes out :-(
i didnt have an airing cupboard or garden for years!! thats why ive relied on my tumble drier so much!! I also used to work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week and had alot of uniforms to wash as i was a nurse and my then parner was a cheif!! My tumble dryer was mate friend indeedy!!!!
We had a lovely airing cupboard in our last house .It was big enough to walk into ,shut the door and get dressed in the warm in the winter ! It housed the boiler and had shelves for all the clobber .I used to hang stuff in there overnight and it was dry and crease free the following day thus saving ironing which I hate .This house has a combi boiler and the previous owners must have ripped the airing cupboard out. to make the bathroom bigger......big mistake !
I miss my airing cupboard :((
Mmmm shineystar:- Your airing cupboard sounds lovely!!!
When I moved in with my boyfriend he had a completely different way of doing things and we rowed sometimes cos he wanted everything done his way.

As I remember I could see that sometimes his way was better but I felt some kind of guilt for no longer doing what my mum used to do. Almost like I was saying her way was not very good!

Isn't that silly!!!
