I have never worked much since I left school, living mainly on benefits.
I have been offered a job, but the hours are 35 per week, with a 1 hour lunch break included, is this the average, as the hours seem a bit long?
I usually have three holidays per year, a month in Europe, two different countries and four weeks in the Far East in November.
Will I be allowed the same amount of time off, with pay, or do people have less holidays than this?
I would love to contribute more to society, but the thought of a full time job, really depresses me.
Your thoughts and advice, would be greatly appreciated, especially if it helps me, reach a decision.

I'm not touching this one with a 90 foot pole.
Well I crack the whip and make my team work longer hours than that and it only takes 15 minutes to eat a sandwich, but I am lenient and let them have half an hour for lunch. Holidays are very much based on quantum meriut, although I do try ever so hard to strenuously advise them against taking leave as there would be so much left to be done when they return. If they are not dissauded then I use my authority not to sign them off.

I however am the boss so I show up ever few days in between playing golf, loitering on AB and making sure that the work gets done (by someone else). I have earned that status, so I guess you have to start at the bottom and work your way up to bone idle.
Very funny!
This IS a wind up, right?
I detect a little sarcasm there cambus.lol.
37- 40 hour weeks are the norm for full time. Some companies in engineering give 30 mins for lunch and allow Friday as a short day.

Holiday entitlement is 28 days including back holidays.

heres a thought, why not get a part time job to pay something back?
got to be a wind up, who in their right mind would spend 4 weeks in mainland europe?
Not taking the bate cambus!!
Three holidays a year??!!!...On benefits??...why the hell am I bothering to work?

This surely can't be a serious question?

Of course you should take the job - have you no pride?
Get off your bum and take the job...we all have to be prepared to work for what we have - If you make no contribution to society - what is the point of your existence?
chicky this is pure trosh

If we have 12 or more kids then we should be ok living on benefits actually love.

Although... can we adopt? I don't fancy giving birth 12 times.

Ta.
china you polish plumber you grrrrrrrr
Surely if you find out how to work the system you could squeeze 4 holidays a year? It doesn't seem fair that someone who doesn't work only gets 3 holidays a year.
I realise that you probably have a massive flat screen telly to be watching to keep you occupied whilst not holidaying, but do try your best as my heart goes out to you - if you need and help, we're all on hand to assist.
Now, go and put your feet up. After your rest, try this:

Doh! - I forgot there were w**kers at large on here.

Tell me, how much benefits do you get to enable you to take all these holidays a year???
Don't you realise, that it is we, the workers, who are paying for your so called holidays?!!!
I won't tell you what depresses me, I am sure answerbank won't allow me to print my answer!!!!
Funny girl - take no notice. This is a wind up, hoping for a knee jerk reaction.
I bet cambus is having a good old chuckle to him/herself with this one!

don't know why you all feel this is too ridiculous for a joke. too many people live as cambus has described, though i suspect this is a windup.

Whats the point in working and paying your way these days when benefits are so easy to come by.

my husband works 70 hours per week and we are lucky to get a fortnight off a year
Cambus - are you cruising for a bruising?

I suppose the hostile reaction, was to be expected, but I don't blame anyone for that.
My lifestyle is not extravagant and I only run a small car, which is over a year old, but it gets me about, so I'm not complaining.
I save as much as I can for my holidays, which bring me great enjoyment, but I feel, if I accept this job opportunity, it will spoil my freedom of choice, to continue with this.
All I am asking, is for people to consider my rights, as well.
