Many years ago I was told that if you had had gonorrhea then you could not be a blood donor for the rest of your life. Is this true, and if so why ?

Thank you, Metz , that clears up that it is true. But it does not address why.

Americans can donate blood 12 months after finishing the treatment for gonorrhea so I don't know why it is lifetime ban in the UK.

Oh. Silly me - I have just read the first link and you can give blood after 12 months in the UK.
