Forget any idea of crash dieting or anything because you will soon start craving something, lose the willpower and end up putting more pounds than when you started.
Stop eating take away, junk food or microwave food. Start your meals from scratch (it's more cost effective that way and you know exactly what you're putting in your body). Grill your meats, steam or bake your fish. Don't add butter to your potatoes. If you're feeling pekish, have a piece of fruit.
Make up little dishes of sugarless jelly, that will help a sweet craving and help you resist a bar of choccy.
Don't deprive yourself of anything, if you want a piece of chocolate then by all means have it, just don't over indulge.
My downfall is crisps, so if I MUST have a bag, then the french fries are pretty good for satisfying my need and they're one of the lower calorie bags too.
