I am really sorry if this question offends anyone but I really want to know the answer and I am too embarassed to ask friends. When I am on my period, I always wear tampons. When I need to go to the toilet for a number two, if I push (not even overly hard) I also sometimes push out my tampon. Is this normal?? Does it happen to other people?? Many thanks

The muscles used when you are doing a "number 2" can easily cause a tampon to be dislodged, completely normal. It is also more hygienic to remove tampon and replace after you have been to toilet - who knows what that string may get caught up in!
Yes it happens to me too! My other friends don't have this problem though or if they do they are too prudish to talk about it like I do!!

I disagree with Lemonbade - it's happened to me too and I have the thing inserted plenty far enough. I'm quite glad you asked this though, Vittel, cos I did wonder if it was just me, getting a little slack in my old age!
May I as a man offer an opinion? I would suggest that the muscles 'pushing' waste from the bowels, and a baby from the uterus are not separately functional, and intentionally pushing with one set of muscles will bring the others into a reflex action. Obviously I have no experience to draw on, but I think my response is logical.

I also disagree with Lemonbade as it is pushed in far enough and like I said, it doesn't always happen. I also strongly agree with brawburd as the hygeine issue always worries me!!! I am so glad that I am not the only one that this happens to.
Yeah Andy, your answer seems logical, afterall women often pooh when they are in labour don't they? (Sorry, the very thought of that is making my stomach turn and bottom clench!!)
Andy is right, lemonbade isn't!
The mucsle Andy is referring to I think is called the perineum. Yeah, it is all on big interconnected muscle.
God, even though a woman asks the question about the bodies of us woman, low and behold a man has to have his say... check the footie andy..
karincon, that's a dreadful and completely sexist attitude. Perhaps you have a litle growing up still to do? Andy frequently posts very reasoned and intelligent answers - I don't think you have shown evidence of the same anywhere on the site. Ultimately Andy has answered the question - you couldn't I assume?
