Hi all,

But then i didnt have it for ages but past few months ive had pain everytime i go to the loo. I booked to c the doc and the appointment is today, but since ive gone on my healthy eating after new year i havent experience so much pain and no blood. should i stilll go to the docs to confirm that is all it is, or shall i not go/..........

Had problem similar to yours. Went to GP who examined me - not at all embarrassing - I just talked myself into thinking I was just another patient to him. He couldn't find anything, said it was probably piles, but referred me to local hospital to be checked out. Got appt. within 6 weeks and they referred me to Day Procedure Unit for Sigmoidoscoy. 4 weeks later had sigmoidoscopy. Again not embarrassing at all, I was treated with total dignity. Turns out I had polyp and diverticulitis along with some haemorrhoid tissue which apparently everyone has and only problem is when it becomes inflammed, which my wasn't.
didn't need any treatment but was so glad I had gone as I now know any bleeding I have is not a cause for concern. Just have to keep an eye on my haemoglobin as it tends to be on the lowish side anyway.

Hi jrobinson200, - I have a similar problem to you, I think I have a "fissure", (after a bit of research on the web). I do sympathise with your embarrasment at the docs. but I have had this "problem" for 30 years, so mine can't be anything serious surely ?! I'm glad for you it only turned out that you needed some ointment.
sallabananas - do you (or anyone else) know if the "Proctosedyl" ointment that you mentioned is a prescription only item ? I know it's a bit late now after 30 odd years to start putting cream on my bum, but it's so painfull sometimes I could cry !
