cris r.......not sure what operation he had, but morphine post operatively may cause constipation.

Check the operation, but if it is nothing abdominal and I hate to go against your Dr.s advice, but go with the senokot.

No it was a hernia straight forward opp no complications not to many pain killers so can not put it down to that eather.
Well I would go for the senokot.
ok cris
prune juice-worked for me in the past
Prune-juice +senokot........that should do it.
Hi Cris,

I answered you here about Linseed Oil. It works and it's gentle.

Seeing as he is in contact with his doctor, ask him for some Movicol. It is a powder (quite pleasant tasting) which you dissolve in water............several sachets may be needed initially but it has the desired effect and doesn't leave you feeling 'uncomfortable' as it softens everything up.
There we are:

Senokot+Prune Juice+Linseed oil +Movicol...............????
:D LOL Sqad!!!!!
i have no idea why your doctor went so over the top about senna - it is very widely used and very effective.
and nothing wrong with taking senna and lactulose together as they work differently. Anyway, is he eating a lot of fibre, and has he increased his fliud intake? seriously if he drinks extra water today (a cuple of pints) im sure it will help
Why are you posting the same question ? We all gave answers to this one last time.....
Jees if he hasn't 'gone' by now...he must be in agony!

Read `Relief For Constipation` on the top of this column
Go with monkeyeyes suggestion, our Autistic daughter is very constipated, its what we giver her, and it works,
Why not use suppositories just to get him to go to the loo immediately. Then go with the other suggestions of laxatives for a few days.
