I take mebeverine (colofac) 3 times every day because of bowel spasms and abdominal cramps (IBS). I live quite a fit and healthy lifestyle but I suffer a lot from work/life stress, which the doctor has said is the primary cause. I have had all the scans and probes, adjusted diets and fitess plans drawn up, its just the stress I need to deal with and keep taking the mebeverine.
Definitely worth getting checked out, I've had problems since I was young and first ended up in hospital when I was 12 and they thought I wasn't digesting my food properly or had a parasite (giardiasis).

Barium meal and other tests didn't reveal anything so suffered on and off for years and other hospital admittances (nearly had my appendix taken out) and got referred back to gastro last year after a really nasty bout of symptoms and they thought it might be inflammatory bowel once I developed inflammatory arthritis.

Had the camera up and down and barium meal and other tests, not nice but not that bad and await the results. Looks like it may be just very bad IBS though.

I found going on weightwatchers a bit of a revelation as I was eating far more natural healthy things, lots of salad and fruit and veg and it made a huge difference. Cutting things up smaller, eating slower and smaller portions also helped.

I have particular problems with dairy and wholewheat, wholegrain etc... certain fruits too, especially citrus ones like apples and oranges.

I agree with artificial stuff, I switched to sweetners to try and be healthier and took a while to figure they were giving me migraines which improved vastly in frequency once I'd stopped.

I've got anti-spasmodics and mebeverine and, although I only use it when I need to, lactulose syrup and codine (tend to use it for diarrhoeah and the pain with it).
