My mother, sister and my girlfriend are some of the safest drivers I know.

 

But yes, overall, I think women are less aware wrt driving than men are.

i think its well known that women drivers tend to have little bumps with other cars,but the biggest problem on the road is the 18 to 24 year olds.male i might add.and you do find that womens insurance is a lot cheaper,so maybe they are better drivers than us?

statistically, women ARE more likely to have an accident than men, but far less likely to cause major damage, or indeed, to have a fatal accident. Hence cheaper insurance for women and the CORRECT belief that women are safer drivers, ie they are less likely to hurt you or themselves when they are behind the wheel of a car.

The question may not be pointed at accidents, Its might be for general things parking, hogging the middle on a motorway etc. i have to say i think they are the ultimate pain in the*rse, on the road.

I'd agree with vinny100 - insurance companies would not offer women lower premiums if there was evidence at all to suggest they were more likely to have a crash.  There are good & bad drivers of both genders.

In my personal experience both as a motorist (no accidents) & a cyclist (knocked down more than once!), the near misses & incidents I've had fit perfectly into 2 categories:

1. Men driving too fast & agressively
2. Women driving at slower speeds but not paying attention.

 

I believe most of us on the roads are very good drivers.  We pass thousands of safe drivers on the road every year but it's only the crap drivers we actually notice - usually because it's us that has to take evasive action.  And I reckon that's why men are more likely to have an accident, not because they're any worse at driving but because it's easier to avoid being hit by someone who's not paying attention but is driving at a slower speed than someone who gets into difficulty while driving at speed.

Having said all that I personally know four drivers who I'm afraid I could only describe as atrocious!  I am astonished that they ever passed their tests.  Between them the number of collisions they've had reach into double figures and I will avoid getting into the car with any of them at almost all costs.  Yep, you guessed it, they are all women between the ages of 28 & 38!

They are certainly more careful than men, driving within the speed limit, not taking risks, etc. But they lack motoring skills and are too nervous, driving too slowly and parking or turning uselessly.

I'd have to agree and I'm a woman driver...but a good one! Have my rally driving certificate to prove it! I do think the point here though is general awareness, of which men tend to have more on the roads.

in all the crashes i've been in it was a mans fault (usually me!!!!)

I've only ever been involved in two collisions and both times it was a woman driver who hit me. I've also had a near death experience on the M42 when my engine blew up on the outside lane and there was no hard shoulder left to pull into....scary stuff. That had nothing to do with my driving though, it was the fault of my dodgy mechanic!

I've never had an accident in 36 years of driving!  I am told I drive too fast, but I don't think so.  I don't think I'm a perfect driver, but I'm as good as any fella. 

 

I do think that there are a lot of aggressive younger women drivers on the roads now, but the ones I hate most are the elderly lady drivers who consistently drive at 40mph regardless - even in a 20mph limit, so you overtake them in the 60mph zone, and then they catch you up through the 30mph.  There are some elderly male drivers like this as well.

 

I think there are good and bad drivers of either sex.

Fakeplastic there are hundreds of those bloody drivers where I live, men & women.  You get stuck behind the old duffers at exactly 40mph in a 60mph limit & if you're not lucky enough to be able to overtake them then the old b@stards then carry on at 40mph past 2 schools!!!!  I hate those drivers sooooooo much!!!!!!.

Micras are the worst car on the road by far. if your stuck in a load of traffic at the front will be a woman driving a super sh*t slow nissan micra.

I think the statistics are going to start changing soon: a recent phenomenon (why does it take me so long to type that word) around here is the aggressive 20-ish woman behind the wheel. Some of them are really trying to get on even terms with the lads.
