Question Author
hi teacher 1 thanks for replying.
i have been told there is no medication for this disease, i have in all fairness been on two quite toxic drugs in the last two years but i am now looking at herbal remedies and vitamins.
any ideas!!!!!
Osteo arthritis is a wear and tear disorder. No cure, but one has the choice of pain killers or joint replacement.
Question Author
they sure do squad 617, but what if pain killers do not work
and joint replacement is not an option at present.
thanks for your reply anyway.
If pain killers don't work and replacement is not an option, then you live your life in pain until joint replacement becomes an option.
Question Author
thanks for that squad 617!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Question Author
can i just ask you sqad 617 do you suffer from any form of arthritis?
LOL LOL...I have had bilateral hip replacements.

Tips:
1) Pick your surgeon carefully.
2) Choose a good unit for Orthopeadic surgery (Hip unit)
3) Go for a cemented prosthesis.
Just as a further comment I was told I had osteoarthritis 3 years ago and it was quite bad according to the x-ray on my knee. Since, however, I didn't have any pain the hospital said no operation at that time. I still have no pain 3 years later - just a slight stiffness in the knee. Has anyone heard of osteoarthritis not causing pain?
I have what they call whole body OE .In other words it's in all my joints ,from my toes to my neck .I've had it now for over ten years It creeps up on you so insidiously though.

Mine started off with RA which little or much has burnt itself out but I still get the odd attack .As for the OE ,I've had more drugs than you can shake a stick at .But I've knocked them all the head for the last five or so years and just live with it ,watch what I eat ,take supplements etc . I've had both knees washed out ;cortisone and all sorts .It's a pain in the proverbial .Cold damp weather is my sworn enemy .I'm just loving this sunshine at the moment .Apart from that I live with it .It won't kill me but there are times when I feel really piddled off .My hips nag all the time like a giant toothache and my hands look as if I am ninety, they are all nobbly and I drop stuff on a regular basis .Unscrewing my gin bottle is a real struggle :))
I do sympathise .My motto is keep moving even if it hurts.
Some good advice here

I have a form called Psoriatic Arthritis, this is a problem with the surface of the joints and is an internal form of Psoriasis. It is very painful at times and I am being treated with a long list of drugs to help me keep in work.
I am taking Methotrexate, which is a cancer treatment and really zaps me at times, for the side effects from this I have to have 6 weekly blood and urine samps taken to measure all sorts of body functions including liver and iron etc, I have to have Folic acid and constant iron along with other tablets, I take Atenanol for high blood pressure and another for RLS which really bugs me (restless leg syndrom) I usually have to give up early in the evening and go to bed. with all of this I get very depressed and so take amatriptaline on a night and another different pill in the morning, I also have Osteo arthritis too but the problems with that are masked by my medication to a certain degree, I take Ibuprofen, co-codamol and Paracetamol to help with this.

I Know, it sounds like I'm a walking Pharmacy, but it does help and I manage to do my job as a school caretaker, although lots of walking is involved so I end up resting a lot.

My wife also suffers and has just recently had both her knees replaced with full joints.

There is a very good website for information on this topic, you will find lots of information here http://www.arthritis.org/

Hope that helps, and you have my sympathy....

Pete
Hello, everybody, sorry to know you have this damn illness, but when you are suffering with your arthritis, do your muscles in your legs hurt too? I have nobbly painful hands and arthritis hips but my thigh and calf muscles hurt too - there are no bones in them! The doc said this happens - I don't believe him...
So who will you believe?
Hello shabill , nice to meet you , I have osteoarthritis too but can't take anti-inflam. due asthma , I have to just make do with panadol , and the occaisional volterol when the sponylosis flares up . xx
well, squad617, I am of course very ignorant of how this thing (arthritis ) works - I thought it was a disease of the bones - not muscles.... I see you have had your problems - are you saying then, that muscle pain is a sympton, too?
sorry sqad617 spelt your name wrong.
As there have been no replies, I gather my question too silly to answer - sorry if I was wasting anyone's time, but I would like to know..............
gardenmad.....youre question isn't too silly and I do know the answer, but at the moment my credibilty is being challenged on anither site, so I will not comment at the moment.
