Having said that, I find it extremely irrating when people come into work when they are clearly not well enough. Firstly, I don't want to catch their colds which they invariably spread to the rest of the office; secondly, I cannot stand the martyr act 'I've got so much to do, I couldn't possibly not come in' etc... and lastly expecting sympathy to be lavished upon them for 'struggling in'.
Sorry - rant over now.
It's just selfish! I try to avoid going anywhere when sick.
On another note though, I think that the older generation are just raised to complain less. My grandmother won't say anything, or even make a sick face until it is completely unbearable or she needs to go to the ER. There's just this "no excuses" mentality.
What about you Kitty Glitter?
If you are seriously ill then you take time off, full stop. This mentality of going to work till you drop makes ME sick. We already work long hours a day, we don't take lunch breaks, we don't take our full holiday entitlement, we work unpaid overtime and we enjoy the shortest number of bank/public holidays in Europe, hurrah.
