Should the burka now be banned?

Yet another crime committed under the disguise of the burka.

How long must we wait before they either ban the wearing of burkas, or at least demand that they show their faces before entering certain establishments?

It should be banned. If I go to their countries, I am expected to cover up so they should abide by our customs if they choose to live here.

I have pulled into a filling station on a motorbike, flipped up the front to show my face, and had the attendant announce over the tannoy that he would not switch on the pump until I removed my helmet altogether.

If you read things like MCN, you'll find that this happens to a lot of people.

I was wearing a tight pair of (kevlar lined) jeans and quite a girlie jacket, and my hair is longer than my helmet. There was (hopefully) no doubt that I was just a girl on a bike.

The attendant told me that, unless he could see my entire head, I was considered a "security threat" and I would not be served.

I wonder how this policy is applied when a lady in a burka stops to fill up ?

I appreciate the reason/s you're asking this question AOG, but I think you're wasting your time!

Although I cannot abide seeing women (or are they men), strolling about covered from head to toe, with only slits to see where they're going & to prevent them from bumping into lamp posts, people daren't mention it for fear of being accused of racism.

It's ridiculous when others are asked to take off their baseball caps or put their hoods down.....

Should all of these items be banned?

Should a innocent person be banned from wearing their preferred item of clothing because a third party criminal might use it as a disguise in a robbery?

This is why burkas should no be banned...

It's because anything can be used to cover one's face. To ban one specific item based on the frothing of the dailymailers is ridiculous.

What wouldn't be ridiculous is for establishments such as banks, building societies implementating updated security procedures to ensure the safety of staff/customers.

I would support any company who said, "We cannot serve customers who cover their faces for whatever reasons".

If for religious reasons, Muslim women felt they had to wear bukhas, then they would have to make alternative arrangements with regards to their banking.

However, the problem with that is that any establishment could suddenly ban women in burkhas, and unfortunately that's where the bigots would have a field day.

Very tricky.

But banning them outright...nope.

How could that be enforced? Burkha police to arrest any woman walking down the street in one?
