What sparked my question was my sisters visit to a clairvoyant (I am suspicious of these people) the clairvoyant told my sister my mother was happy and had a child.(she has been dead over 20 years)
Ok that doesn't make much sense until I tell you that 5 years before i was born my mother had a child whilst still in hospital my mother saw a vision of some stranger, she told the nurses at the hospital that someone had come to take her child away. She was told to stop being silly by the nurses, later that day the baby died.
Oddly enough I don't believe in life after death but some very strange things do happen. I was not at my mothers bedside when she died, I was at work but I knew the exact time she died I felt very week and sick and I had to grab something to stop myself from falling to the ground because my legs had gone weak.
There is more to tell , perhaps another time but thanks for the sensible and interesting replies.

I do not have the certainty you seem to be asking for in the OP. At times in my life I have warmed to the idea of reincarnation. If you believe in individual survival of bodily death then one can see it might make sense to return and improve as an individual on what you learnt in previous incarnations. But at present I see it only as an interesting possibility. I'm unsure the evidence cited could not be explained in other ways. So I'm assuming it doesn't happen, at this point in my life.
