Madeleine Mc Cann.

The Mc Cann Parents are once again whinging that the British police have given up searching for Madeleine. The search cannot go on for ever using our Police. The Mc Canns have funds to carry on their own search in Portugal but why expect our police to be used when Madeleine went missing in Portugal. She would not be missing if they had not left her in the flat I hasten to add.I so hope that she is safe and well looked after somewhere bless her. Other children have gone missing I do not remember Ben Needhams Mother expecting help when he went missing in Greece many years ago.I am tired of them complaining.

As has already been said on here,it is very easy to be wise after the event. It seems a very long time to leave three young children alone, assuming them to be ok.
I obviously do not have access to police files, but I believe there is more to this case, than has been reported.

That's the point, 4get ...
Since Maddy disappeared, over 600,000 British people have gone missing.
Over 200,000 of them have never been traced.
Many of them are children.
All the families are thinking ... why can't we have as much publicity as the McCanns have had?
I am totally behind the McCanns, but ... where does is stop?
And why do the other missing people not get an equal share of the attention?

because they have the money and have contacts they have been able to get enough support and now have a large campaign going on. They have used alot of their own money. But they shouldnt get any special treatment from police. But then as soon as Shannon Matthews went missing there was just as much hype and they were poorer so maybe the police had learnt a lesson by then.

NoM, the police only have limited resources. If they devote a full investigation to a three year old case, what about the cases that are happening today? Should the murder of someone last week have less priority than the McCann?

________
No, murder enquiries should never come second to missing persons' investigations, but nor should cases of missing children be closed before there is an outcome.
Imagine if Madeleine is alive and being sexually abused on a daily basis...
The parents have funds with which to hire their own investigators and their efforts to leave no stoned unturned are highly commendable. However, I still think the police should follow up any new leads. They owe it to the little girl.

I agree with you totally patsyann - and as I haven't read all the other postings here I don't know if anybody else has said this, but I reckon if the MCCanns had come from a run down, poor council estate, they'd have been 'done' for neglecting their kids, and quite rightly too - but no, they were doctors and that seems to be enough to let you off. I know they have lost their daughter, and I hope to goodness that she'a alive somewhere and fine, but they must take some responsibility to what happened that night, and not whine and moan when things don't go their way.
I've come late to this thread and have read most of the posts. In my view the question regarding British police is easy, they should not actively do any more unless firm evidence is presented to them.
Leaving children sleeping while you have a meal and drinks with friends is more difficult. We often have drinks and bbq in the garden with our son and his wife with the five year old twins asleep indoors. We are in sight of the house, as were the McCanns.
When y son was little we took holidays abroad and while he was asleep had drinks round the hotel pool. I don't think we were neglectful parents.

NoM, the case isn't closed, just downgraded until new evidence resurfaces. You could have a hundred coppers on the investiagtion, if there are no more routes to take then they will just be sat around twiddling their thumbs. They could be out investiagting other crimes instead.
Realistically maddy is probably one of the most recognisable children in the world. If she were still alive somewhere then somebody would have seen her. The moment she became so public the abductor would have no choice but do the unthinkable. I honestly do believe the poor child is dead.

I've been on skiing holidays with friends with children, and stayed in hotels, where they've put the kids to bed and come down to the Bar.
Each set of parents has sat there in the Bar, clutching a mobile baby monitor, through which you can hear every little cough, snuffle and movement.
The idea of leaving the building was completely and utterly unthinkable.

Blimey... I should change my name to MissUnderstood.
I'm not suggesting they continue to spend thousands of man hours looking for her, but that they merely follow up new sightings and investigate new evidence. And as for her having one of the most recognisable faces in the world... We don't truly know what she looks like now and how many of us look into the eyes of every child we walk past?

I don't know if she is dead or alive, and neither do most people. I do think the McCann's were foolish, but not overtly neglectful. either way, they've paid the price and always will. I think the Portuguese police fluffed the investigation. I don't know what the UK police could have done, or can do now but I'm sire they would respond to any updates.
apart from laying blame (which achieves nothing), it's terribly tragic.

Yes, 4get ... if the kids turned over in bed, it was really loud.
And the only publis access to the hotel was through the doors beside the Bar.
Even in the days before Maddy vanished, not even a Ninja could have got out of the building with any of my pals' kids.
And then you see on the News that the McCanns left the bulding, and with no audio monitor and, whilst feeling desparately sorry for them, I think ...
... were you out of your MINDS ???????
