Thrush in pregnancy

My sister is 17 weeks pregnant and has thrush. She has tried the vaginal pessary, but that only cleared things up for a few days. She has now got cream, but this hasn't helped in the past. Can she take oral thrush meds, or should she just stick to the topical treatments? Or are there any other non-medical things that could help?

Thanks

you cant normaly take oral meds during pregnancy. I suggest she speaks to her GP or midwife about the best treatment. I hear natural live yoghurt can work!!
Difficult problem sometimes.

I am going to assume that the thrush has been diagnosed by a swab taken by a Dr.and sent for analysis, but if this isn't the case then get a swab taken and ignore my advice.

Tablets MAY be taken in pregnancy (Fluconazole) but only after all topical methods have failed.

Hawkwalk is correct natural yoghurt may help. Change you underwear twice a day and keep your genital areas clean.
Speaking from experience and in addition to what sqad has said, it really can help to change to all cotton underwear and trousers if you are wearing them and avoid tights, cycling short type things and leggings. Avoid soaps and shower gels in the genital area, plain luke warm water is best.
Take a look at your diet, up the amount of water that you drink and cut out as much sugar as possible, also it may help to cut down/out yeasty foods, beer, bread leavened with yeast, wine, marmite.

Thanks all - I've passed on the info. Thinking about it, she is obsessively clean and normally baths twice a day so that probably doesn't help at all. She said the cream is helping but dreading pregnancy if she has it all the time (I'm very lucky that I've never had it!).
Anyway thanks again
