Little Tiggs has been coughing all night and also has symptoms of a cold i.e. runny nose. I've given him some Ibuprofen but is there anything else I can give him and should I take him to the GP?

I looked up Tixylix and apparently there are warnings against giving cough and cold remedies to babies and children. Although you can still give them simple cough linctus. I just want to ease the cough so he can get a good nights sleep.

He doesn't seem to have a temperature and I'm trying to feed him frequently.
No for the first question

No for the second question.

Hiya Tiggs,

Happy New Year to you and all the family, sweetheart. :0)

Sorry to hear about little tiggs, but colds are plentiful at this time. I would just keep giving him Calpol/Ibuprofen if he has a slight temperature and see if that kicks in and helps. If he continues to be troubled and cough gets worse, would'nt hurt to get his chest looked at by your GP or nurse, so would make an appoimtment or ring your surgery for advice by keeping them informed of his symptoms.

Hope he gets better soon. x

Your right Pinki, I should just let it run its course.

Hi Yogi, happy new year to you and your family too x

I'll leave it for today and see how his cough is tonight.

Thanks all.
Phenergan might help him sleep but on the whole I'd be inclined to just let it run its course too.
If he is coughing very very badly I would get him checked out in case its a chest infection. More than likely its viral though. My LO has been ill for weeks and so have the kids I look after! You can alternate calpol with ibuprofen too if you need to so you dont have to wait 4hrs for another dose as long as you dont exceed the daily dosage.

Its not too bad at the moment Tigwig but its worse at night when he's trying to sleep. I gave him ibuprofen this morning and I haven't needed to give him any more since. I'll give him some more before he goes to bed. I've also got some Calpol nasal spray to help with his nose.
if he has a snuffly nose try saline drops or spray. No drugs, very soothing.

Yep, thats what I've got Woof. I'll spray his nose before he goes to sleep. I've got carvol capsules as well so I'll probably put a dose of that near his bed as well.

Gawd I worry to much don't I?! Lol
Its cos you are a good Mum
