Unable to Breathe Properly
27 Answers
Sometimes if I try to fall asleep on my back I will just be about to drop off and suddenly feel quite breathless, kind of like I have a weight on my chest so I find it difficult to breathe properly. It stops as soon as I turn on my side but is there anything that could be causing this or anything to stop it happening?

Is it sleep apnoea (I think that's how you spell it) You might be better sleeping with a higher pillow. Sometimes it is caused if you are too fat, when you lie down the fat gets up between your ribs and stops you breathing properly. I could be wrong mind, so best to seek medical advice. Sqad is good if he is around.
firstly you should have mentioned your age, also are you worrying about anything while on your back, this of course could start you getting anxious and your weight may contribute , l suggest if you are on your back try a meditation method lying straight out starting with your feet tense them then relax them , next your knee's tense then relax , going on the way up to your head, while you are doing this remember to breathe in and out , if it keeps happening then speak to your gp, hope this has been a help.
Thanks sengas; am nearly 24 and still within my 'normal' weight range despite the Christmas weight refusing to budge yet! As I said I've not really been stressed of late and it happens just as I'm about to fall asleep so not really thinking of anything apart from "Mmmm, cosy bed!" May try the relaxation techniques though; have used them before when I couldn't actually get to sleep in the first place!
