Ear Ache - Sqad?

I had my ears syringed about 12 weeks ago. Ever since then I regularly get a dull ache in my left ear. I may have once perferated the ear drum in this ear but that would have been about 20 odd years ago (and I don't remember it which is why I only say 'may'). It's not excrutiating pain which is why I haven't been to the docs. Any ideas?

Milly, just to add to the debate, for future reference the best way to have wax removed from your ears is using the vacuum method rather than syringing. Ask your practice nurse if a hospital near you offers this service - it is much much safer, especially if you think you may have damaged your ear in the past.

Milly, I'm sure sqad does help lots of people, but the best advice is always to visit you GP surgery and see your Dr or Practice Nurse. For instance ibruprofen (neurophen and similar) certain questions should be asked before taking, particilarly as the normal dosage is 400mg (two tablets not three = 600mg) for example are you asthmatic, do you have a stomach ulcer, are you on anticoagulents, and many more.

It will only take you hald an hour to visit the surgery and get the best advice for you.

We do know about drug interaction with Ibuprofen and 600mgms for an adult is a normal dose.

The idea of this forum is not to cause alarm and chaos which you seem to be doing.

Still reccommend Milly visits her surgery, as without examination a diagnoisis and treatment cannot be prescribed.

i am rgn. rm, i have in the past questioned sqad ^s diagnosis treatment advice and contradictions of gp and consultants , on this site and have no wish to reopen the debate with him, lots of abers ask and receive medical advice from sqad, personnally i think it is a bit risky, and i certainly would not do it.but chaffinch lots of abers will disagree with your opinions, and no quad, im not getting into any debates with you again, we each hold our opinions,

Your ears are delicate organs and should be treated with respect not by a web page paramedic! (Who may be using wiki, google or Ask,jeeves, we will never know)

One upon a time a doctor was put upon a pedestal and his every instruction was followed but not understood.

Now - we know that they are flawed humans like the rest of us.

I don't think that anybody who was genuinely very ill would stop off at AB before consulting a doctor .

Many of us have 'things' wrong with us that annoy us but are not serious enough for us to consult our GP. We come to AB.

Some times we want reassurance or confirmation of a self-diagnosis of a minor ailment (my recent bout of Bubonic Plague).

Sometimes we want to translate doctor words into understandable words.

I am a cynic and really don't trust many people but I have no reason to suspect that he has no medical background. Does it matter? This website isn't "Dr Sqad's diagnosis service". We really aren't *that* stupid - the miserable old git would charge for that service.

milly - last burst eardrum I had was excrutiating (Ive had 3 in same ear wont bore you) and when I got to my own GP (was in Spain at time) he even said it was the worst pain he had experienced.....until it bursts then you sleep like a baby-didnt help OH saying can you keep the noise down a bit grrr
Take it the dull ache has just occurred after your ears were syringed? I would hazard thats what it is but doesnt sound to me from my experience like an infection-maybe just slightly 'angry' at being interfered with.I reckon it will calm down -the canal is really quite small.Hope youre better soon and you'll know yourself when to go to the docs.

If you shouldn't take advice long distance, then why have they got the NHS online or telephone help, which incidentally is completely useless. I know who I would rather go to and it is sqad. He will tell you if you should dash off to the doctors or ring for an ambulance and equally if it just needs a paracetamol.

You quote RGN and RM.....never heard of them....that doesn´t mean that they do not exist, but from your answers and Chaffinch´s knowledge of antibiotics, then I would question their worth.

I understand SRN and SEN....these convey to me the true vocation of nursing and will always do so. Nurses who work on the wards supervised by a Ward Sister and at the head....a Matron. All these other "Nursing titles" to me just mean "jobs for the girls.

I will give advice on AB the best that I can and I couldnt care a jot whether it is taken or not. Luckily, many people do take my advice, the majority do not.
As it should be.

To you Chaffinch...never...never..in front of patients use terms like "bad advice"...if you do not agree with it then say..." I must disagree with you on that point"...many health workers (es nurses...real nurses) often disagree, but they do it in the traditional way taught by the "old school" of SRN nurses.....with dignity.

I thought everyone here knew that sqad was a retired sawbones. For some reason James Robertson Justice comes to mind. For those of a younger vintage he was an actor who played an irascible surgeon in the Doctor films.
