My boyfriend and I went away for the weekend as it was my birthday yesterday. I booked the flights and hotel but he paid for it.
Now whilst I appreciate that he took me away, he never got me a birthday card and he didn't even say happy birthday to me until 6.30pm last night when I asked him if he wanted to say anything to me! Only last week I was saying to him that we should make more effort to be romantic and thoughtful towards each other as it feels like we're just living together at the moment and he said he had taken what I said on board.
I would much prefer to have a card which has thought behind it than be taken away and have to book everything myself.
Now I don't know if its because women and men think differently (because I know if I talk to him he'll not understand and will say I'm making a fuss over nothing) but all my girl friends agree with me. What do you lot think?

peri......LOL LOL....yes...life, experiences, relationships and situations have made me from a romantic Beau Geste, to the cynical miserable b@sterd that I am today.
Would you believe it....the latter (miserable b@astrd) is far more fun. Being miserable, life can only get better, being happy and jolly (like Her Royal Highness, Queen Bobbisox of the North) life can only get worse.

I think you are making a fuss over nothing. If romantic gestures come naturally then that is fine, if they have to be prompted or forced then they are worth absolutely nothing. Me I had some flowers on valentines day 37 years ago - the first year we were married!! Neither of us are particularly Romantic but it doesn't mean we don't love each other.
My boyfriend is getting worse for this as well. I am seriously questioning if he can make me happy or not.
I have spent the past few days upset and really down about a few things and as usual he is no where in sight or even text me to see if I am ok.
I don't think its much to ask at all but I think men get complacent far too quick then wonder why it back fires on them !

I never had a card for a birthday or Christmas from my husband in the 30 years we were together. In the end I used to write my own and show him and say that's from you .He was always very surprised that it was my birthday, he always thought it was in November when in fact it is in March. He was a very generous man with everything and would give me a lot of money to buy myself something nice. But he would never, ever shop for a present.
He was completely eccentric , but then so am I, and I loved him to bits.So for me a card is no big deal .
But I do understand how you feel., and I agree with how you feel.
