My boyfriend and I went away for the weekend as it was my birthday yesterday. I booked the flights and hotel but he paid for it.
Now whilst I appreciate that he took me away, he never got me a birthday card and he didn't even say happy birthday to me until 6.30pm last night when I asked him if he wanted to say anything to me! Only last week I was saying to him that we should make more effort to be romantic and thoughtful towards each other as it feels like we're just living together at the moment and he said he had taken what I said on board.
I would much prefer to have a card which has thought behind it than be taken away and have to book everything myself.
Now I don't know if its because women and men think differently (because I know if I talk to him he'll not understand and will say I'm making a fuss over nothing) but all my girl friends agree with me. What do you lot think?

I am still waiting for a 21st birthday card from my boyfriend, and I am 23 next March!
I would be very upset if he did not wish me happy birthday all day and pretty unimpressed if I was left to book my own birthday weekend away.
Mr Wiggal as I will call him as it is easier - like I say is useless with cards, but I do get valentines and anniversary cards from him, and after nearly 6 years has no problem telling me he loves me or sending me kisses at the end of texts and soppy stuff like that, but birthdays he just cant manage to get me a card!

Dear oh dear....but this is not unusual this is just typical of the species we call men!! I have been with my unromantic partner for 20 years, in the first year, I got flowers, chocolates, taken out for a meal on birthdays valentines etc, then with each subsequent year, one treat was dropped, the last time I got flowers they were fake "'as they will last longer"' (at least I can see where he was coming from!). I have to heavily prompt him about my birthday, but at least he does buy me a card and tonight I asked him what he wanted for christmas, to which he has replied "peace on earth". Christmas discussions for him are out of bounds until at least the 23rd!!
He is not romantic, but at least he is supportive, reliable and I know that anytime I need him he will be there 100% for me, and yes I know he loves me.
As a lot of the others have said, you need to understand what is important to you. As the years go by in a relationship, the romantic side, altough important, takes a lessor role to the way a partner responds to the day to day dealings with life which can be far more stressful and I know I would far rather have a partner like mine than someone who may remember to bring me flowers or a card, but is not there for me when it really matters.
Hope my rambling reply has helped a bit, I have enjoyed reading the imformative and funny responses made by others on this thread!!
Cheers Sue
