Actually, Sqad I found it much more romantic to get married quietly and don't find anything appealing about big weddings. We got married on a Monday and Mr LL went back on night shift on the Tuesday night. We had a rented house with no furniture except for a bed, a couple of old chest of drawers donated by my Mum and an over. No fridge, no washing machine, no carpets, no curtains.

Anyway, we survived and I still love the man (even though we fight like cat and dog)!!
An oven, not an over!! My typing fingers are faster than my brain these days and run away with themselves!!
Lofty......similar to our wedding. We don't fight cus I am the submissive type and do what she tells me to do.;-)
lol , are you a "yes dear" type sqad??

they have the most successful marriages apparently, well in terms of longitude..
Oh yes, Sqad, I bet you do ;o) I'm so domineering and stubborn that it's a damn good job Mr LL isn't submissive - there, I've admitted it!!
at the end of the day as some people said it does not matter how much the ring costs
if it is real or fake
or were it was from
all that matters is that they like it

and i do agree that no one should get engaged if they have no intentions to get married
there are maternity rings for that
we too had a very small wedding, a registry office do, 20 guests at a sit down meal, i was 24, he was 21 (yes he'smy toy boy and very grateful i am) and a disco in the evening which we missed as we were otherwise engaged!!!
speaking of engaged, we didn't even bother, just started saving up and got married when we found a house to buy. everyone though i was pregnant - i wasn't .
i think 17 is far too young to get engaged. when i think of what i was like at 17 and then at 25 there is a million miles difference. doesn't matter where the ring is purchased, it's the very, very young age. but....... we all know everything at 17 don't we????
Oh dear Cazz, whatever happened in my case! I couldn't cope with a submissive man though!!
Raechel did you mean to say eternity rings
yea lol sorry
LL you are your beloved thrive on the bickering, another successful recipe for marriage ;)
The first thing everyone assumed when we got married six weeks after deciding was that I was pregnant. Back then it was still considered shameful to be pregnant and unmarried. I got married just before I was 25 and had my son when I was 36. Long pregnancy!!

lol @ maternity rings, do they come extendable for the last 3 months? ;)
We don't bicker Cazz, that's too mild a word for it. I hate bickering. Nope, we have good old slanging matches!!
love it cazz, good one rachael!! :-)
...however, this brings up an interesting point. I have always believed eternity rings mean that - eternity - so often women are given them when the first child is born, I had mine on my 7th anniversary. When I lived in the Midlands, the local habit (as rachael suggests) was that girls wore enternity rings BEFORE the engagement, to indicate that although there were no wedding plans, they had a commitment to their boyfriend. I'd never heard of this before - I guess from what rachael says, this does still happen?
I was being conservative lottie :o

I remember when I was in my teens and it was all the rage to get "eternatised" of course this was more if the relationship lasted more than a few months which was like years then :)
what have i done now lol
i really don't understand this post. Is the inference that cheaper rings are bad, and blooming expensive rings are good? Or that you get a better quality and length of marriage the more you spend on a ring? Are you divorced poodicat? how much did your ring cost?
