Butter substitute

I have started a diet last monday and doing not too badly, but has anyone come across a butter substitute that tastes like butter (not marg) and you can use for cooking as well? I'm afraid that that is one of my diet fall downs, butter and cheese. I've tried "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" (I can!)
and most of the Flora range, but nothing seems to come close.

No :( I just spread it thinner.
If you really would miss it then just fit its nutrition into your diet plan. Have less rather than substitute.
In a word No. When I dieted seriously I used to buy the butter pats they use in restaurants so you can weigh them and allow yourself a small amount.I think there were about 4 in an ounce which is about 250 calories. High I know, but sometimes nothing but butter will do.
I find Willow (£1 in larger Tesco, Asda & Sainsbury stores) an acceptable substitute for butter (and excellent for cooking).

Most non-baking recipes requiring butter taste just as good (or better) using olive oil instead.
I just scrape it on scrape it off. I've yet to start my diet seriously. Haven't done bad up until today, but the car broke down and we were out in the cold waiting for a lift. Had the car fixed, cold and hungry, stopped off at the Fish Restaurant for a fish and chip meal. Lovely.
The daughter was told by Weight Watchers to avoid butter substitutes, and just use less of the real thing.

I use Dromona 'half fat butter' on my toast every day, but maybe that's not on sale outside NI.
I started using it when I began with SW and still managed to enjoy the taste of butter and lose over 2.5 stones in 5 months (+ another 5 lbs since I reached target). And I eat it on sandwiches.
The family would walk over glass for my mashed potatoes with Dromona in it.
However, I have never tried baking with it - but no news there, as I'm useless.
As O-G says, just use less butter.
Try Babybel light and Laughing Cow light cheese as well.
You can't beat Lurpak. When it comes to either dieting or healthy eating the answer is, all things in moderation.
Lurpak do a lower fat spreadable one islasmum, I use it, it's fine!......
Oh yes I love Lurpak butter, there really is no substitute and my thoughts would be a little of what you fancy...mmm
It's still a substitute welsh. It's like comparing a single malt with a glass of cheap plonk. I want Lurpak on my toast.
I know micmak, but it does taste much better than the ones that say they taste like butter, but don't at all!........

Thank you all very much; I think I'll stick with the real butter, and maybe try Lurpak next time I have to buy it. I shall just have to try and use it in moderation!
lurpak lighter is ok still butter... also leave it out of the fridge for a while before using it it spreads a lot better (you can get a good coverage with less)
Very good point of rowan's. Straight from the fridge will use much, much more!
Lurpak spreadable, you can spread it thinner
The only spread I like is Clover light and it is great for cooking too. None of the other spreads taste at all like butter.
