I drink a lot of green tea, red tea, Tick Tock rooibos tea (my favourite) but cant say it helps my weight. I suppose if you drink them without milk, which I cant, it would probably help

Thanks for your answer TOH.

I've read a lot of information over the last few weeks about the health benefits of green tea but some of the websites also mention it may help with weight loss too, obviously as part of your general healthy diet and exercise as it is supposed to help burn fat, I just wondered if it was all bunkum as many of these claims turn out to be.
Bunkum I'm afraid - there isn't a single scientific study which supports the idea of green tea being an aid to weight loss. I drink it because I like it, don't want to have too much caffeine, and because people have been drinking it for generations. If you want to lose weight, try a low-carb/high fat diet. It's the best way to lose weight and keep it off. For the science etc you can visit http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf No "hard sell" for books etc, just helpful information. I lost weight this way (and keep it off) and can thoroughly recommend. Hope this helps!
I drink it because I like it, I have it without milk - it's getting lots of liquid through you which can help flush out toxins and keep your digestive system moving.

Thanks for the info TopKat but I am not interested in that sort of diet.

Thanks for your answer boxtops.
I have a cup of green tea every morning - I take it without milk because I don't like milk. I will probably have another 3 - 4 cups through the day. I had heard that it was meant to help weight loss, but it doesn't seem to do that for me! I just drink it now as I prefer it to normal tea.
It's also said to prevent bowel cancer, however, my late husband drank it on a daily basis and still got bowel cancer... As to weight loss maybe by drinking a lot of liquids your stomach feels full so you eat less but this would apply to all calorie free drinks.
I would think its much the same as any other drink. If you have 16 mugs a day all with three lumps of sugar, it's probably not going to be that beneficial. If you drink it without milk and sugar a couple of times a day then that's fine, but then I suppose the same could be said of black tea.
I drink green tea regularly and I still weigh the same!!!!

Thanks for the answers everyone.

I'd like to say, I didn't think that green tea on it's own would cause weight loss, it is supposed to help burn fat better when exercising. It is also said to make you feel fuller quicker when eating so you eat less.

As it has other health benefits that are documented I have decided to start taking green tea capsules anyway (can't stand the drinkable version) and see how I go.
:)
Not sure if it helps with weight loss, but if you google benefits of drinking green tea it does seem to have a lot of health benifits. taken form one web site
"The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue."

If this is true then we should all be drinking green tea!

Also
"It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke"

I have been drinking it for years (cant stand normal tea now)

Orange and lotus flower is my fave Mmmmmm.
I enjoy green tea which is why I drink it but my sister started drinking it because she was told it aided weight loss - she did lose a few pounds but admits it was just because rather than going for a sugary drink or a snack she made herself a large mug of green tea.
