Onwards and Downwards Continues in February 2013
Hello all,
Welcome to February, I hope that those of you who were on a strict post Christmas diet have had some great results, and relaxed just a little.
Look out just around the corner is Valentine's Day! Save the chocs and dinner out and spend the money on a spa day or movie evening with the OH instead. Any other ideas?
We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.
Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

I know the feeling LYnda; sometimes the harder you try the less you shift. I got "stuck " for a couple of weeks after Christmas not lossing anything much and I think its down to the weather. Our bodies holding on to it for warmth! Try a change of menu. If you're eating similar meals on a regular basis see if you can think of something different. We're trying sweet...

Here I am, halfway through my holiday, and so far so good I think. I have been swimming every day and tried to steer clear of the sweet trollies. However, that only leaves more room for extra beer! Im trying not to undo all the good work Ive done, but without being too uptight about it. See you all when I get home next week!!
Holidays can surprise you. Not had a proper one for years, but when I did use to go I found the hot sun meant I didn't feel like eating much during the day. Even with a Full English for breakfast and a good meal in the evening, plus all the alcohol, it wasn't uncommon to have not gained and occasionally even lost during the break. (In my experience the same doesn't seem to happen if you use up your leave at home.)
Hi wendilla, xstitcher and all and thank you for thinking of me. Finally had the plaster off so today was the first time I weighed in as usual and have now lost 8st 1lb. Consultant was very pleased with the x-rays of the ankle and says all looks to have healed well. Struggling with the pain since having the plaster off and just got to take it slowly now, on crutches for another 6 weeks and then another check up to make sure all is still going ok. Hopefully the pain will gradually ease as I get better and I will be able to do a little exercise. Still determined to get to that 10st.

I would think that if you keep to chicken fish and the odd meat meals and plenty veg you should be well on your way. We usually post our gains and losses mostly on a Wednesday. Quite a few people on here that may be in the same position as yourself will be able to give you ideas . Look forward to seeing you each week.

Welcome mallyh.....your diabetic food should keep you on the straight and narrow and you will see the pounds disappear. We have had many success stories on this thread.
It was lovely to hear from you Jan and congrats with loosing the plaster and roll on the next 6 weeks so you can throw away the sticks...just wait...you will be dancing away this summer......well done for loosing weight while you were indisposed. There must have been quite a temptation for some comfort eating but it seems you know how to knock that on the head. Thanks for keeping us up to date and hope to hear from you on a weekly basis now that the plaster is gone.

Good Morning All,
Down almost 2 lbs this week. We have been eating a lot of fish this week and have had no meat at all. Last night we had grilled salmon. Salmon isn't my favourite so I had just a little bit with asparagus (now in season down here) and still felt full. After standing still for almost all of Feb. I am quite pleased.
Here is a a tasty lo fat recipe for a sauce for salmon for 4 pers.
4 tablespoons lo fat Greek yogurt
3 to 4 tablespoons djon mustard
a good squeeze of a fresh lemon
one chopped up bunch of dill
It is quite good and the longer it stands the better it tastes.....

Speaking of fish ...... I just remembered a long gone holiday in Normandy on the invasion beaches. At the hotel on Juno beach where we stayed we ate the most delicious fish which was always served with mashed and then piped sweet potatoes which looked lovey and because the piping was in small mouthfulls it wasn't overwhelming if you are not a 100% fan of sweet potatoes. You can easily make a piping bag out of baking paper.
Good tip Xstitcher. Now and again I will do a large pan of potatoes mash them and scoop them out with an icecream scoop. and freeze them. As I live on my own I just need to take out a couple and dont need to boil them all the time as half of them sometimes get thrown away so this way you have them ready just to warm up.
Here is how to make a piping bag.....

Morning all, I'm down another 1 1/2lb and have that third stone in sight now. I've been cooking winter warmers recently which as a vegetarian, is quite cheap and easy. Lots of veg and a few beans or pulses and OH barely notices that there are less potatoes or breadcrumbs theses days!
Although we did have slimmers chips this week as a treat. Microwave the potatoes for 5 minutes with the skins on. Slice into wedges and arrange on a foil covered tray with a few squirts of olive oil Fry light. Bake in a hot oven - tasty!
