Onwards and Downwards Continues in October 2015

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Despite this Indian summer we are having autumn is well and truly here. This means soups and warming dishes.

Also Halloween is just around the corner and if you have children and grandchildren then the prospect of a night full of sugar rush and tantrums probably fills you with horror!

Here are a few treats for Halloween that may not be sugar free but certainly will not be filled with e-numbers:

Sweet and spicy pepitas popcorn balls, you could sub in the flavours you wanted or just make the balls plain and have dips on the table instead.

These sweet potato chips look yummy and you could add whatever dip or chutney or sauce you liked.

Although this does have chocolate it does still mean a bite of something healthy as well

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Come on in Janbee. We'll help you get back on track. I'll make a cuppa for you while you make up your mind and when you're with us I'll give you the first easy yet effective tip to follow, but no more than one so you won't feel overwhelmed. Is it a deal?
Ok X, go for it. ... xx
Hello Janbee it is so easy to fall of track but not so easy to get back as most of us know . One way to help is to make sure you have all your meals planned for the week and write it down . I f you have everything you wont be tempted to ring that Chinese or pizza delivery as I well know .I am sure Xstitcher will come back with more tips .
well having the oul vertigo which causes loss of appetite - I have lost some weight. I was 14 and half stone and this am I am 12.13. No good at pounds but that would mean 21 lbs..
I really don't eat dinners now - a sandwich does me for dinner - maybe that helped. I make one dinnr for sista on a Sunday.
Hello Jenny well done how long did it take you to lose 21 lbs. Sometimes not eating proper healthy dinners and skipping meals with just a sandwich may not be a good thing . I know it wouldn't work with me but if you can't eat dinners every day you will just have to watch your vitamin intake and make sure you are getting the essential vitamins .
Good for you and welcome J anbee. Wendilla has pipped me to the post but I'll go a bit more into it.

Get yourself a book and make up your menus for a week or half a week at a time. In the beginning don't save on words because after a month or so you can go back to the menus and repeat them. Add the name and page of the cook book where the recipes come from (or website). I have a pretty note book from a pound shop so that doing this is fun. Also allow three small snacks a day and have them written down. Do your shopping from your menus.

We're all here to answer any questions. Good luck!
The secret is to eat anything you want, any quantity, ......... just don't swallow !
I'm still on target. 12st 4.5lbs at yesterdays weigh in. Started in July at 14st 9lbs.
That's terrific Sandy and the right way. Set yourself doable targets within the near future. Keep it up!
I've just discovered edamame beans or green soya beans. They are healthy (google them) and delicious. I buy them frozen. Pour boiling water over them and leave for three minutes.
I then put them together with shredded Spring greens, sesame seeds, lemon juice and lo salt. I love this easy to make salad and can be stored in the fridge for quite a few days. I take it in my lunch box to training along with a sandwich.
I got my step-counter from the 99p shop, because I wanted a basic one that only counts steps. Some give you too much info, I didn't want one of those cos I don't like too much technology. :0)
Good morning all

Down 1 gram...did I perhaps loose an eyelash. Urgent means are starting...I'm going back to the little plate!

I'm also starting with my new step counter, but what is normal for a temporarily handicapped, but walking, OAP? It's not easy to find out.

Today is my last day at my rehab training and from now on I shall be in the capable hands of our local physiotherapy center who have also been working with me for many months and have a hand in the miracles that have happened.
Xstitcher, don't be trying for the 10,000 steps right away. How about starting with what you feel comfortable with and gradually increasing the number?
Everyone's different; unsure that there is a norm for OAPs. Where does one get 'bathroom' scales that measure to the nearest gram ?
Morning all I am still the same ok with that but would like a kick start .Well done to you Sandy the longer it takes to come off the less chance of putting it back on so quick . Now xstitcher you have OG looking for another set of scales to confuse us more lol .You have done so well xstitcher don't be in too much of a hurry you need to get all your strength back . Your progress has been great .
Just weighed. Down 0.8 lbs apparently. Was hoping it would be more but hoping it's the start of a trend. Goodness knows I need a downward trend.
Ha ha...I meant 100 gems OG!

Thanks for the tip Sandy, now I just have to get the pedometer to work! I think that will be on my weekend "to-do" list. I don't think I'll ever get up to 10,000 . I thought that was more for people on there feet all day....definitely not me. Haha

This is the Tuesday before a long overdue Wednesday weigh in! I don't know whats happened to me this last week or so I cannot stop eating, am permanently hungry and have been buying buns and chocolate like never before. Yesterday I was out and about and where normally I'd have fruit or coffee, i had cheese on toast, iced bun, choc bar and biscuits.

If I come on here and type IT HAS TO STOP, I might just listen to myself. Today is a new day and I have had a healthy breakfast, so off to a good start.

Be back tomorrow, onwards and downwards.
Hi Xstitcher, how are you getting on with your pedometer. Maybe you could aim for a thousand steps a day, and then progress to beating your own record. I put mine on the moment I get up in the morning so that it counts every single step I take.
