Onwards and Downwards Continues in October 2015

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Despite this Indian summer we are having autumn is well and truly here. This means soups and warming dishes.

Also Halloween is just around the corner and if you have children and grandchildren then the prospect of a night full of sugar rush and tantrums probably fills you with horror!

Here are a few treats for Halloween that may not be sugar free but certainly will not be filled with e-numbers:

Sweet and spicy pepitas popcorn balls, you could sub in the flavours you wanted or just make the balls plain and have dips on the table instead.

These sweet potato chips look yummy and you could add whatever dip or chutney or sauce you liked.

Although this does have chocolate it does still mean a bite of something healthy as well

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Perhaps it is the colder weather. Keep feeling peckish, myself, of late.
What is happening to us? I've got a raging appetite, Maydup has gone mad,
OG is peckish and I'm sure he has done something about it hmmmmm.
Shall we say that we've had a visitation from the hallowe'en gouls of temptation which have temporarily overpowered us and leave it at that.

Hubby forgot to put out the scales for me last night so I tried to put them down myself but with my poor balance they had a rather crash landing and all they would say was LO. More news on them later but I must have put on this week at the rate I've been eating. The naughty step really seems to be overbooked this week!
Morning all after 3 weeks of staying the same I am still the same but not too worried . I have had the odd cake and my daughter makes lovely big cup cakes and she brought me over 2 .could not let them go to waste. I need a kick start .I think I am having too much cereal so going back to porridge now .
Not a good week for me. Overall, up 1.6 lbs. Been a very down & up, down & up week since last Wednesday.

Yes, had a few more biscuits than I should. But the real problem was I never hit the daily goal once the whole week. I really need to get into the habit of checking each time I eat/drink something rather than go half a day and then tote up. It's astounding how it adds up.
Dusting off the naughty seat for you OG.
Still can't get my head round why you want to weigh daily . Some days you will eat different things so the gain or loss is not going to be the same if you know what I mean oh dear here's me trying to work it out now . Not saying anymore will get myself in a knot lol .
I don't understand why folk don't want all the progress info they can get.
Still different folks have different requirements I guess.
Pity the scales don't send the info to the PC for it to chart automatically: nor the foodstuff I consume not tell the PC what it is composed of, for toting up :-)
Ah, the pedometer Marijn. Yesterday was the first time I used it but when I used a public loo it fell off my waist band, shattered and rolled under a baby changing table where I couldn't get at what was left so am just about to go to eBay and see what they have to offer. Thanks for the starting off number.
Oh dear! My pedometer tried to get run over on Monday. It fell off in a car park, and landed behind the rear wheel of a reversing car. I quickly grabbed it before it got crushed. Thinking about it, I shouldn't have taken the risk :-)
Anyway, I'm so glad I use one, it's really inspired me to beat my own record. Also if I go upstairs and forget what I went up for, I just think to myself, that's fine, because it'll add more steps to my step count.
You and I think the same way Marijn. It's so good to be able to turn a negative into a positive.
I bought a pedometer that you wear on your wrist and we'll see how that goes when it gets here.
I did weigh in yesterday but didn't have time to post before I left for an early train. To be honest I have lost track of where I was at my last weigh, but I am heavier than I need to be and thats what I really need to remind myself of.

I'm on the naughty step, fair and square, but its porridge and blueberries for breakfast and it will be soup for lunch. Think I'm facing the right direction at least!
Good for you Maydup. I had some blueberries with my Kellogg's K .i hope yours were sweeter than mine.
Ooh, can you let me know how it goes with your wrist pedometer? I like my pedometer because it does record every step. I had one before that skipped counting sometimes. I think a wrist one must be so much easier to read, than a waistband one.
Will do Mari. I just bought the chespest to begin with.
Thanx :)
1lb down today which is a step in the right direction at least. I have a feta and beetroot salad ready to take to work for lunch, and have bannished OH's biscuit tin to a closed cupboard!
well done Maydup . I have to keep biscuits in for grandkids and I too keep them out of sight .I usually have plain ones for myself and if I fancy one I just bring 2 through and put packet back then the temptation is not there to have another . I have stayed the same .
Aye well done.

I succumb to biscuits too. I find a couple of arrowroot biscuits occasionally don't break the diet.

Ah... Wednesday, so up again from Tuesday (+0.8 lbs !). But at least it is down over the week by 0.8 lbs. (Just 24 hours removed half my success for the week.)

Good morning all,

Hmmmmm I've not had a good start today. First I forgot it was Wednesday so that was that weigh in down the drain and then I salted my fresh grapefruit instead of adding sweetner. I rinsed it out but it wasn't the same.

From today the scales get moved back to where they were before I got ill. I don't use a wheelchair anymore so there is enough room in the bathroom for them.

My wrist pedometer arrived yesterday and my physio swooped it away to see how it works. I'll tell you by the weekend Marijn. Gosh that was a big chance you took rescuing yours. If you check eBay you'll see that it's the wrist ones that are selling now.
Well done OG and Maydup! I didn't weigh this morning. I will be interested to see how the wrist pedometer works.
:-((. good Morning all

I haven't been able to weigh myself for three weeks and the result is up two pounds, oh woe is me and off I go to the naughty step hanging my head in shame.
