if i am a contractor working on my own
will a million pound be enough as public liability insurance or will companys expect two million

1m is typical cover and I think its the min requirement (ABers please confirm or deny)

Some companies or organisations may ask for more but that depends on what you do. Some public sector stuff i've worked on asked for 5million

It really depends on who you plan to work for - as mentioned, if you plan to work for any council / government body you will need �5 Million
There is no legal requiremnet for public liability insurance. The only insurances that are a legal requirement in this country are National Insurance, Employers Liability Insurance and Car Insurance.

That said, as you have discovered, many customers, particularly public funded organisations, will insist you have it before they will deal with you. Not a legal requirement but a contractual one. They should indicate the level they would accept in the contract.
