I have Microsoft Outlook and am email came in to me from a reputable source (actually Chelsea Building Society) but as the program tried to open it, it gives me the error report, and says Outlook needs to shut down, and gives me the option of either sending error report or not to Microsoft. The problem is the whichever option I choose it keeps coming with the same message over and over, like it looping. The only way out is to opt not to re-start Outlook, which of course I need to open to get my emails! It happens every time I open it. I have a virus scanner which is up to date functioning, so I dont know how to clear the problem? ANy ideas?!! Thanks immensly, else I am billy no mail.
Well it's almost certainly a virus or spyware. The fact that an email CLAIMS to come from a reputable source doesn't mean that it does. What antivirus software are you using?
Have you tried restarting your computer, opening Outlook and simply deleting the e-mail?
The email is from who they say, we get them in the line of business we are in, a colleague of mine got the same email, no problem. I use AVG antivirus, and it is bang up to date. I want to delete the mail, but I can't get that far as the message flags up right as soon as I open Outlook. I have re-started, tried to also go back to system restore point, but no joy. Its like its stuck in a loop - major pain.
Try this: Click Start... Run. In the box that appears type "outlook.exe /safe" without the quotes. That's safe mode for Outlook which should allow you to delete the offending email.
At a guess, I think your problems may be caused by your internet options which may be affecting the way the html or (very unlikely) scripts in the email are being handled. You could check out your Internet Options in Control Panel and see if they're the same as your collegues.
Ralph - Just want to say thank you - I tried again, with a space before the "/" and it opened, I deleted the mail, and now we are fine. I really cannot thank you enough. Funny things these PC's, we take them for granted when they work, yet when they dont its hell! All fixed now, and I am so pleased thanks to you.
