Swizzed by the cash machine
23 Answers
I went to the local shop this morning and used the Link cash machine. I asked for £200 and it only gave me £180 (I had more than this in my account). I told the shop assistant and she said to ring my bank. I did this and they said to get back to them in ten working days. I know of at least three other people that this has happened to and they didn't get their money back. What else can I do (apart from not use the machine again)?

Hi both - the machine is cranky at the best of times. If it runs out of twenty pound notes, it goes into a kind of panic and then finds some tenners. My account was debited £200 but the machine doesn't belong to my bank, I think it is a Nationwide Link machine. My big issue is that this is not the first time it has done it (as I later found out) so I was wondering who I should contact. A lot of people around here don't have a lot of money so can't afford to lose £20 (not saying that I can either) or get the bus somewhere else to use a different machine.
maybe the machine was almost empty sher, and could only dsipense £180, but seems odd, as they usually give a message to tell you that they can't dispense the amount you asked, and asking you to choose another amount!............I know it does take them about 10 days to sort it if there's a problem with dispensing cash!...........Hope you can sort it out!.............

I once requested £200 from the Halifax ATM outside a Halifax branch, the transaction seemed to go okay but it gave me no money. I went into the branch to report it, and basically they didn't believe me. After an interview with the manager he rang me to say the receipts tallied with the money dished out............I lost all the money and immediately closed my account.
