Visit To London

My daughter (aged 8) has the chance to go on a school trip to London to see a musical . I don't normally worry about her going places, however they are travelling by train from York to london. I can't help but worry that she may get lost, stray from the group or get left on the train ( or the station platform). I don't want her to miss out on a fantastic day out just because i am a fusspot but part of me thinks she is too young. What are your thoughts?

Yes Boxtops, its a trip from school about 20 children altogether.

if it is an organised school outing, there will be the legally required number of adults in the group to ensure the safety of the children.
additionally, they will give the children a thorough briefing about staying together, and not wandering off

I used to take school trips (11 & 12 year olds) from Sheffield to London by train. I can assure you that the teachers will be doing head counts almost continuously, and that you've got absolutely nothing to worry about. Just make sure that she's knows the golden rule: "If you get separated from your group, STAY WHERE YOU ARE and let the teachers find you; DON'T go looking for them".

Snowdrop, as a parent I was called in to help with all my kids school trips, they are very well organised and heads are constantly counted, don't worry. :)

Personally I would never have let my Daughter go on a trip like this at 8. I wouldn't be happy for my Granddaughter to go on one and she's just turned 9. 11 or 12 I might feel a bit more comfortable about it.

Make sure she keeps a phone with her, turned on, with all necessary numbers programmed in ... You, teacher, friends, etc.

too young at 8 - definitely - there are too many bad people out there and the teachers can't keep a 24 hour count - no way -- 10-11 have a bit more sense - only a baby of 8 forget it - she will get out and about in her own time - plenty of time of that - all the kids are growing up too quickly.

Buen - remember your count of children on a trip were 11-12 years of old

no offence to you jogger jayne -- why the necessities of phone calls to teachers parents grandparents etc to keep a 8 year old safe - far too young.
