bruv filed for divorce in local Courts @ 250. Completed in 3m with equal settlement of assets and each paying own legal costs.
I am in South Africa. Standard practice here is that each pays own costs or person filing pays all costs as part of settlement. I paid half costs as my ex and I used the same attorney in order to reach an cheaper and quick settlement.
Hi Hurtfather. Divorce is a nightmare and you need to act quick to protect yourself. My only advise is to become ruthless because my friend was not and he ended up homeless and skint. Take what you can and show no mercy because that is exactly what her solicitor is going to do to you. To start with you need to get control of your finances. Empty the joint bank accounts. Get all documentation that is in your name from the house. If your cars in your name on the vehicle reg document thats good. Dont focus on what they have had or spent etc because the court is not interested in that. They will only deal with the assets that are frozen such as equity in a house. Stop paying any monies towards the upkeep of the former matrimonial home immediately. Write to experian, equifax and credit expert informing them of the situation and ask to be disassociated financially with your ex. Good luck
