They've always been there for me, even when I really didn't deserve it! Now as a parent myself, I see why they acted the way they did, and hopefully I may prevent my kids making my mistakes - with guidance and advice that I had.
no i dont blame my parents, well not anymore, i was put into care at 5 years old ,separated from my six brothers and sisters and had a life of hell untill the age of sixteen, but i have forgiven them in my heart, theyre both dead now but i never got to know them properly, but i love life and my husband an d family and dont hold any grudges to anyone, therfore i have peace and happiness in my life. :)
My siblings (now in their 30s and 40s) still rattle on about what happened to us when we were young. It occurred to me that our parents were probably years younger than we are now when they made the various mistakes to which my siblings refer. I've made a few mistakes in adult life so far but I'd hate to be judged on those alone. We are all finding our way. It would make sense to believe that once you are no longer their responsibility, you are in full control of your own life and therefore the older you get the less you can use your parents as an excuse for your own shortcomings.
Woofgang - nope. I, in true cliched style, think that my mum is possibly the finest human being that ever lived, and still is. My dad was quite a dude, too. and i miss him vastly. the question was really more of a pricker to discern whether people had struggled as much as i have to internalise their foci of control.
I do think that parents play a major role in the way we turn out. when I was little my mum and step dad argued alot and my step dad hit me alot. This in my opinion has made me a very argumenatative person and I do have trouble walking away from an argument however I do think that we are the way we are because thats how we want to be
