My next door neighbours little girl will be 3 at the end of this week. Shes recently potty trained (within the last 3 months) and then she had a tummy bug. Since then she just will not use the potty or the toilet. Shes constantly saying she doesnt need the toilet and is wetting herself, hence little puddles all over the place! My neighbour is at her wits end and was nearly crying over it when I was talking to her about it this afternoon, its really stressing her. Shes tried all the bribes etc but nothing is working. Does anyone have any advice/tips? Many thanks in advance

It could be possible she also caught a urine infection, did she have any antibiotics? if so she won't allways be able to conrol her bladder like she previously could, maybe needs medical advice. Or maybe just has bad association with the toilet after last weeks infection (if it was painful or uncomfortable), your neighbour needs to try to be a little more patient if this is the case, trying not to upset the child, easier said than done i know.

thanks lastchance, I think shes taking her to the doctors tomorrow (to check to see if theres infection) as apparently after Id been speaking with her this afternoon her little girl was playing and weeing and didnt appear to even know she was doing it. Im not sure that she did have antibiotics with her upset tummy although it did go on for about 3 weeks and all test results came back normal

my youngest son, now aged 10 suffered with pneumonia aged 3 this was misdiagnosed as gastroentraitis so i was looking after him at home for nearly 2 weeks, as he was too week to even move from the settee all day I found it best to put him back into nappies, once he had been into hospital and treated he seemed to have made a full recovery but I had to go back to toilet training him again, I was told that this could have been due more to the emotional side of his illness, basically feeling so scared of what was happening to him rather than the illness itself being the cause.

Maybe this is the case with your neighbours little girl, if so you can reasssure her that with my son it took less than a week to retrain him again.
