can anyone tell me how to remove an inkstain from a 100% cotton coat

I seem to remember milk will remove ballpoint ink

if it is fountain pen ink, you could try a n ink eraser. If it is biro, hairspray does get it off most surfaces.

However, as it is a coat, I'm assuming then that a test patch is impractical. It might be safer to take it to a proper cvleaners to get it removed if the coat is not machine washable.
