Does he like sport? New badminton/tennis racquet, football with goalposts & net, rugby ball, etc.
Is he musical? An intrument of choice.
Like books? Tokens or a trip to the shops.
New bike, roller blades, skateboard.
Portable CD/DVD player.
Games to go with any console he might have.
Marvin's magic set (with a walking "hand"), board games, electronic games, Gross Magic set (Toys R Us), football shirt, trainers, watch, chemistry set, pinball machine.
Laser pen, multi-coloured torch, mini safe (Science Museum), . Depends on what you want to spend hun, and what your son's "into".

I have a 13 year old son. He collects Pez so that makes it easy for me, but I don't buy him 200 dispensors for Christmas. Gift he got for his birthday that he loved were, an MP3 player (I hate IPOD brand), a digital camera, a pre-paid cell phone (he has to do chores to earn more time, win win for both). He has also used his metal detector quite a bit, and you can get them for well under $200. Hope this helped some. He is one not into video games, but does also like to get DVDs.

I have a 13 yr old son, so I know what you mean! I would ask his mum, or failing that, cold hard cash! Its a funny age and they love to have cash to chose things themself.
