I am a smoker and welcome comments on what I have written to the Imperial Tobacco Co. :-( a reply is awaited.)
"Dear Sir/Madam,
Ever since Players 'Medium' tipped cigarettes were withdrawn from the market, I have been smoking 'Embassy Number 1'.
Please correct me if I am wrong in my belief that originally your No.1 was made from pure Virginia tobacco but is now being manufactured from a blend of others.
My concern is that your company's cigarettes are now not what they were and, as I have to continually relight them whilst smoking, I would appreciate your observations on the issue concerned."
Hope you get an answer ron. If I had to guess I'd say that the effort to reduce tar and chemicals may cause the lighting problems - or maybe you're just not taking a drag often enough! I've only ever smoked menthol - I had to change from Consulate because hardly anyone stocks them anymore.
It's to do with the paper I reckon. The paper used now has to be what they call (I believe) firesafe. Basically this means that at certain points in the cigarette it is designed to go out.
Yes I smoke, but its the 'amber leaf' type so the rolling papers vary if I can't find what ive done with the last lot. However what mostly happens is I put down my roll-up in an ashtray and get gripped in something on-line so it usually goes out. I don't think it has anything to do with the papers... I'm just a slow reader.
Seems a reasonable enough enquiry. I smoke roll ups these days, used to be a die hard marlborough light girl with occasional menthol action but these days I can't stand the taste of a big ciggie and much prefer my little liquorace paper rollies... it's now to the point that I will go without rather than smoke a big ciggie, they make me feel a bit ill.
I tried when I was young but was never able to master the technique. After nearly choking and coughing (with encouragement from my older sister who was a chain smoker and died from a smoking related ailment when she was 46) I decided it was not for me. I still pretended to smoke but just drew in the smoke and blew it back out again without letting it go down my throat. I finally decided it was too expensive to keep doing and not enjoying so I stopped. I am very grateful to whatever guardian angel watches over me (although I am really an atheist so don't actually believe there is one) for not allowing me to continue. I worked for Wills at one time and they gave all their employees 20 cigarettes a week free to encourage them to smoke. Needless to say I took mine but gave them to my husband.
no i dont smoke..and if you saw the poor souls on their death bed dying from lung cancer and other smoking related diseases you wouldnt either..or maybe you have and choose to ignore what fate will befall you..and smoking will catch up with you 1 day make no mistake about that..have a nice death...
mrsmaveric...Thanks for wishing me a pleasant death. I guess at my age of almost 80 there isn't much time left; although I have been smoking since the age of 10 when I was evacuated to Llanpumpsaint during the second world war.
i didnt mean to sound rude vivandron its just that i have seen many, many people in my old job succumb to the ravages of smoking..in fact i salute you on your age after 70 years of smoking...
