After being married for 42 years I became widowed & recently have been invited to dinner with a male friend - I haven't seen him for a number of years & I'm in a bit of a quandry... If I say yes, should I offer to go 'Dutch' with the bill? Tia

I would definately offer to pay half when the bill comes, even though I suspect he won't take it.
I hope you have a lovely meal and a lovely time with your friend, and you should be proud of yourself for moving on x
42 Years of marriage is a great achievement he must have been a great guy. Good luck for the future.X

How was the invite worded. If he said he would like to take you out to dinner, let him pay and if you want to repeat the outing, offer to recipricate on another day, or offer to cook him a meal. If it was more of, shall we meet up for a meal sometime, then offer to go halves

Thank you
Even if it was a date, I'd still pay my own way.
You could say yes on condition that you go dutch
Personally I hate splitting bills. I often offer to pay and if the other person insists say, next time it is my turn. Unfortunately I have one or two friends who never seem to think it is their turn, but thats life I suppose!
Mine's the other way, I have a friend who always says it's her turn....
Perhaps its me Boxtops!
LOL grasscarp, hmmm...!
Just a dinner with a friend or actual date date?

If the former then I'd never assume I wasn't paying for me, if the latter then I'd always go to pay half but if he insisted he would pay I'd let it go graciously and pay next time.
its best to at least offer... better for him to refuse it than to secretly feel like you should have split it...

is it a proper date?
