Naming Ceremony.

My Great Grandson is having a naming ceremony shortly....does anyone know what the equivalent of Godmother is called, when its non religious please.

There wasn't an equivalent, when my greatniece was named. It's not like the church service where the Godparent undertakes to influence the child's religious upbringing if anything happens to the parents.

We use Guardian.

To me, guardian has a more legal terminology - someone who's appointed to look after the child in the parent's absence. That's a legal arrangement - the naming ceremony isn't about that but quite separate. IMO.

Well I think that was the idea my parents had tbh when they chose- not much point having people in name only who aren't there in a crisis.

TBH - I am not sure that some people always realise the significance of taking on the Godparent role either.
