Grandparents

If you are a grandparent - would you like your grandson just turned 17 living with you.

The young guy works all week but at weekends - he wants to start partying at 11.00 at night till the early morning of day.

Me - I'm not a grandparent but I wouldn't like the responsibility.

If anything happens to the young fella - parents (conveniently) will point the finger - my son was with you (you know what I mean) -

As long as he wasn't partying in my house and didn't wake me up coming home, I might be ok with it.

I'd be far more worried about a 17yo lad who WASN'T partying thoughout the night!

I have a 17 year old grandson. While I love him to bits I wouldn't want him living with me.
We love our life as it is. Couldn't cope with him. I know his mum has problems sometimes with him.

When looking after me sometimes while my parents was on holiday and I didn't go with them ( grandparents looking after me ), my grandparents reckoned that they needed a holiday ;-)

I have four grandchildren - 20, 18, 13 and 10. Love them all to bits but wouldn't want them living with me. Have had them stay with me at various times (not all 4 at once) for up to a fortnight. Was always glad to hand them back and get my feet up.

Well if he's 17, he could be off living in a squat or anywhere so I don't see that the parents can expect much control or supervision from his grandparents. As for the weekend partying well I wouldn't allow it in my house but what he does elsewhere wouldn't be up to me or anyone else..... I do think that to avoid problems, it would be as well for the grandparents to spell out to the boy and to his parents what they can expect and what they can't and what the house rules are and the consequences of breaking them. Personally I don't want a lodger, related or not.

I have two grand children, jj. Both grand daughters the oldest is six years old. So 11 years to go, gawd only knows if I will be up to having a 17 year old living with us then !.

Yes. I lived with my grandparents, I would do the same as they did for me.
